Aliens, The Abyss, True Lies and Titanic finally get digital and 4K Blu-Ray release dates

Yeah I also rated the Abyss job. Shame they dropped the ball on Aliens

I'm also happy with The Abyss. It's held a bit of a mythical status for me as I remember the hype around the special edition when T2 was released but I never got to see it at the time and it was a ball ache to get hold of afterwards.

I meant to post this when it came out but here’s a great video that highlights what the ‘critics’ are talking about on these 4K remasters… in a way that made me appreciate the ‘issue’.

Warning for the occasional swear if you’re sensitive (but nothing overkill).

*** video removed due to too much swearing ***

I love this YouTuber.

That is an interesting video but I'm not a film purist in any way and from what I saw of the 4K version of Aliens, I'd be all over it. Looks sharp and that's all I'm bothered about really.

The grain being removed would be a deal breaker. That's what gives it an authentic look. Upscale it by all means but don't remove the film grain.

I thought that the Aliens remaster looked amazing when I watched it - I didn’t pick up on the issues made in Nerrel’s vid at all. But with that explanation I can at least see how people could be sensitive to this… there is definitely a hyperealism going on that might be distracting once you become conscious of it.

But from a play and forget perspective, it definitely works… on balance probably better than a low res viewing. Maybe.

I think thats the biggest problem, it's virtually invisible for most people but if you eventually DO see it, you can then see ALL of it all the time, and its awful!

Just a heads up, the Aliens Special Edition UHD digital version is currently £4.99 on Amazon/Microsoft Store to buy. I'm just trying to convert my MS Reward points to get it for nowt. :D
Thanks. Tempting as I have that many ms points.

On the fence on image quality. I also like a disc .... But don't want to commit without seeing it

Watched the Abyss. First time ever... And the 4k remaster looked pretty good to me. Nothing amazing but certainly crisp and defined, the hdr pop was also well done.

Picked up a copy of The Abyss while over in the US - take that BBFC !!

Looked great - still one of my favourite Cameron films.

I bought "The Abyss" as soon as it became available in Europe. In fact from the Netherlands. Have watched it many times since, and fully agree with you @Mint8, it is still my favourite Cameron film.

Well chuffed with Aliens. I thought it was Special Edition because it was done in 4K but it is actually the special extended version with the added bits!
