Considering the age of the universe it's probably likely that only one race will ever exist in a vacinity at any one time, Dinosaurs are what you would consider alien to us (except that they were of this planet) and 65million years is what separated us from them.

Watch the documentary series EARTH and you will see how we are most probably unique.
It has taken millions of different things in the right order to happen and is still happening to where we got.
Somebody else on here made a list of stuff but two major things we have are volcanoes and Jupiter.

Kind of arrogant to think that we are the only intelligent (Questionable) living beings in all the universe.
Hell Yeah, I believe. Would feel quite loanly if we were on our own
