Alienware AW2723DF - Yay or nay?

Hi all,

I'm looking to get a 1440p monitor to go with my new incoming 4080S and this looks like a good bet.

I was tempted to push the boat out and go for an OLED but I'm mega-fussy and issues with dimming when the screen is mostly white will do my head in. I've also debated UW but think it'll be a headache compared to having a separate 2nd screen with stuff open while gaming.

Am I likely to have frustrations with light bleed/dead pixels or are these generally spot on? Also am I going to be stuffed using HDR if a 2nd screen doesn't support it?

I see you can make use of a premium panel exchange scheme but it only mentions stuck bright pixels, not dark ones. I suppose I can just return one with dead pixels less than the threshold under DSR?

Any opinions or suggestions gratefully received

EDIT: Also, am I a moron for thinking that a 4K screen would be a bad idea? I want to enjoy high frame rates hence the 1440p angle.

Honestly I'd give the OLED a try, you can always return it but until you experience one you really don't know what your missing, as for 4K depends what games your playing, if your more focused on FPS and want every edge you can get then 1440p at 360hz would be better, but if you play more single player stuff and don't mind not hitting fps cap then 4K is nice

I mostly like playing strategy games, RPGs, roguelike and story-based single player stuff (eg: Days Gone, HZD, D:OS2, Xcom, Risk of Rain 2). Even so, I want to get away from stuttering and feeling any laggy performance with dips - I want that feeling of buttery smooth play just like I had when I first got the GTX970.

So many options, and I have friends throwing completely different opinions at me - one thinks I'm mental for ignoring 4K but others say 1440p is the sweet spot. Ultrawide looks great but I'm not sure I want to keep dealing with workarounds/hacks to get games working. There are also the rabbit holes of HDMI 2.1, DSC etc which I've gone down (particularly with the OLED AW2725DF) - oh god...

A quality monitor justifies it's cost, image quality, colour accuracy, response times, high framerate gameplay, decent enough HDR in most cases especially with RTX HDR and Dynamic Vibrance
100% go OLED

I'm currently going down rabbit holes looking at OLEDs.

I've got the AW2725DF. There is no dimming so don't worry about that. I've had it for a few weeks now and really happy with it. Colours and black levels are excellent as to be expected with oled. I went with the 27" 1440p monitor over the 32" 4k version because I was already running 1440p and 4k would roughly halve my FPS.

As above, eyeing this up some reviews have me humming and ahhing about it. Especially re: supposedly not full bandwidth HDMI 2.1. More research needed!

Seems people either get on with these OLEDs or they don't - reports of eye strain, headaches etc are odd. Would be good to hear back after a few more weeks have passed to see if you still like it?
