Alienware AW3420DW & AW2720HF

I returned my LG 34GK950F today due to terrible light glow in the bottom left corner. It had a small amount glow in the top left and right corners too. It ruined all dark scenes in games and movies and was especially annoying when watching something that had black bars.

So I ordered the Dell AW3420DW and have that coming on Tuesday along with 5 years warranty.

Djay I have had mine for a while now and it's a very good monitor, I have not had better. I have no issues with the monitor.

I agree, I absolutely love it now I have gotten used to it. I do think they could do more with the Alienware application. Would be good if you could change the presets using it. I have set up shortcuts to the FPS and Standard settings on the buttons on the back but if you could do that within the app it would be great.

Does anyone have any backlight bleed on the AW3420DW?

I do have some in the bottom left and right corners but it isn't much of a problem in games.

Which settings are people using?

Out of the box, it seems pretty well calibrated and not eye burning bright like the LG 34gk950f was.

I haven't changed any settings so am using stock settings. All IPS panels have some degree of glow in the corner. But there isn't much on mine. I'm very happy with it. Mind you I am a 50 year old with increasingly poor eyesight so maybe I just don't notice it. If you aren't happy then just ask Dell to swap it for another. That's one of the advantages of going with Dell over the LG version.

How good is this monitor as a multi-use monitor.

ie would those who have one say it is good monitor for photo/video editing and also gaming?

I assume you're referring to the Alienware. It's a fantastic gaming monitor which can also be used for productivity. But I would suggest that you should only consider it if you want it mostly for gaming. If you actually do most productivity with a little gaming then I'd suggest it may not be ideal. The reason I say this is because of the curve. If you are photo editing then a flat monitor, possibly with more vertical resolution, would be better.

I think this monitor is great for gaming, general browsing, emails, software development, word, etc, because the curve means it's easy to just move your eyes and still see the image straight in front of you. But the curve also means that for productivity applications such as photo editing then it takes a while to get used to drawing straight lines again. Many people don't have a problem with lines on a curved monitor but some people do. I haven't entirely got used to it yet. So if you need it for photo editing more than for games then I suggest getting a flat 4K display instead.

...but it's great for mostly gaming with some light editing.
