I've basically got a AW3821DW on order, potentially should be arriving at the end of this week.

But I've also seen the G9, I have read of many of the issues, seen the online reviews etc and it is one heck of a monitor.

Currently I am using 2 x 27" 16:9 panels which are yonks old so either are going to be a huge step up.

Mainly used for gaming, single player and love the levels of immersion that both of these products offer.

They are actually pretty similar in price and space isn't an issue on the desktop.

Dell seem to be much superior in terms of returns etc but I think the extra space of the G9 is really persuasive.

What do you think?

G9 is VA - that's more than enough to put me off it tbh. I ordered the AW38 a few days ago myself - upgrade from the Acer XR34 :]

Mostly glowing reviews online for the G9, it’s more feature rich than the AW and the extra screen real estate looks awesome.

Just the quality and support issues put me off.

Will see what happens when Dell update my anticipated delivery date tomorrow.

This is likely biased because I own the AW38 but my original preference was the G9. I was put off by the G9 thread on here though with some people returning multiple shipments to eventually get one that was with acceptable or good, QA just seemed to be down the toilet and I wasn't prepared to play the panel lottery multiple times.

My AW has been perfect from day one, it's an absolute joy to work on (Revit and AutoCAD) and game on.

So for me I have absolutely no regrets over what I bought, it's perfect for me and I'm really looking forward to being able to finish my upgrade when CPU's and GPU's are available.

I have never got on with VA panels and could never have one, too many issues and compromises but some people love them.

G9 quality control seems to be all over the place. I have a friend who has now gone through 4 and the although the last one isnt perfect he cant be bothered to swap it again and will live with it.

Trouble is every type of screen (TN, VA, IPS, OLED) has it own major down sides which is enough to put anyone off got we have no choice we have to pick at lest one of them..:D

I myself own the following screens (Maybe i couldn't make my mind up :p )
PG278Q TN
PG348Q IPS
PG35VQ VA
AF9 OLED

Ordered both, will set them up and see what I prefer.

choosing a monitor must be one of the most difficult decisions, looking forward to seeing the G9 the most though.

I was faced with the same decision and eventually decided on the Dell. But I think either way, you are getting a superb monitor. Certainly the G9 is the most exciting but it does have it's issues.

Im tempted with the Dell as well. I managed to get them quote £1170 for it....
Not sure though....

See if you can get any kind of discount code. I ordered mine for £1040 with mil discount - I don't know what you do for work or if you have access to a student card or something? Might be ways of knocking more off.
Or -- and I know this is an annoying one -- wait, Dell do offers reasonably often. I mean, £1170 still isn't a bad price - so it's not the end of the world if you went for it at that..

Cheers Greebo, whatabout the X38P in your opinion? it doesnt seemed to have gotten much mention on OCUK....

Same panel as the LG and Dell isnt it? Just that Acer have overclocked it to 175Hz but then it costs £650 more than the Dell.

If this size and UW is what you are after, I cant think of any reason why you would pay £650 more for the Acer.

Ill try to negotiate a bit more.

I really wonder how this fairs against the 38GN950.... the problem for me with the LGs were the vignetting effect at the top and bottom.

I don't notice any on the AW3821DW. There is always some darkening towards the edges due to angle differences. If you move your head instead of just your eyes, you will see what I mean, but certainly I do not notice anything other than that with the Alienware. Maybe it's just me, but I am quite tolerant of defects anyway. The only thing that drives me nuts is dead or stuck pixels. Regards bleed, mine has none, but that's probably just random luck. I absolutely love the AW3821DW. The G9 is a fantastic monitor too.

My G9 has now been delivered, looking forward to unboxing and setting it up when I get home later.

The Aw38 was supposed to be delivered tomorrow but appears to be stuck in Holland with no updated anticipated delivery date, if all works as well with the G9 as I hope might not even unpack the AW38
