Alienware Console

You're still missing the point.

I wrote "it could be a console if hardware specs remained the same and software was produced specifically for it." By any definition that would be a console.

I'm not for one minute suggesting it will ever be, but in theory.

So your point is, if it were a completely different product, it could be a console?

I would always build my own, Rather than buying something like this. Only annoying thing with SFF cases, Is there never seems to be any stylish ones. They all seem to be quite ugly.

Im confused - is my PC now a console? Obviously my alarm clock is a console as it has specific firmware written for it - somehow though I cant past the first level once the sound goes off - any help?...

Anyone fancy co-op?

ps3ud0

Sorry but Silverstone SG08, FT03 and Lian-li Q08, Q25, Q11, Q18, and Q07 all disagree with you there. Lian-li SFF cases have comparable looks to most other cases with their lovely brushed aluminium same applies to the two Silverstone cases. Also most of the Shuttle cases are really nice too.

anyone know exactly how good this GTX 555 is? i cant find any benchmarks of the PC version of the card anywhere. i can find a million benchmarks of the laptop version, but i guess that will be worse than the desktop one

*edit*
wow, looking at the Nvidia website the GTX 555 is worse than a GTX 460. pretty shocking that they're charging £950 for that version

for a similar price you could get an i7 2700K, GTX 560Ti 448 edition, Z68 motherboard, decent cooler and a £100 case (along with stuff as close as i can get to the alienware's specs, including a copy of windows 7)

so... shocker as alienware PC is overpriced

I googled all those cases, how are any of them stylish exactly.(The FT03 looks okay) They're all different renditions of the same basic shape. I wouldn't use any for a living room setup. Hense why HTPCs will always be hidden away. Companies always manage to do nice stylish and sleek cases for their products, yet the bought ones for custom builds are always just that square\ rectangular\shuttle shape. Which is very off putting. And not a welcome edition next to a nice living room setup.

Just having a look through the Silverstone cases available, and there are some nice ones actually. But the lian Li ones, Ugly. Anything with that particular basis for a design is just not stylish

So it's a middle-of-the-road spec PC, trying to look like a console that will struggle to play crap console ports more than most enthusiast PCs would.

It's too far in the middle groud to be successful IMO. You either want an utter beast, or are happy with a console. With that thing (especially considering its relatively high cost), you're getting the worst of both worlds.

Wait what? What case do you have? One of those stupid Lian-li shell cases? ALL PC cases are rectangles? What were you expecting? If you want an HTPC then an HTPC case is your friend: Wesena ITX series but not really comparable to the plastic POS that surrounds the X51.

That X51 looks stylish, forgiving the ugly logo.

My PC case is an old antec sonata piano black II. But it's not part of my living room setup, So it doesnt need to look sleek.

However I am building a HTPC, Just waiting on a case that I can forgive enough to allow it to sit next to my TV, Satellite and PS3. Oh and some spare funds would be nice.

Just so you can get an idea of how anal i can be with regards to style. My 360 was banished to the bedroom along side my PC, wasnt allowed near the TV.

Looks stylish if you are 10. Personally if it is going in my living room it needs to blend in with the rest of my kit so black brushed aluminium and 435mm wide is a necessity not covered in lights and made from cheap plastic.

Besides that is not the point. This isnt an HTPC its an ultimate gaming PC to take on consoles. Which is why it is underpowered, and plastic with LEDs. When you factor in the cost things get even worse. At least a console doesnt start from £700.

Is your TV wall mounted? If not you could get a VESA mount case and then you never have to look at it.

No, Its not wall mounted, To be honest My living room is black, white, grey with hints of red. And I just discovered a case which i actually dont think I mind, And may end up purchasing. It's a Thermaltake Element Q Mini-ITX, it is square, But with rounded edges, and the front panel has a red highlight.

So I'm happy to eat my words with regards to the rectangular shape being too plain, as I think this is going to work perfectly. The red stripe\rounded front helps it tremendously though :p

Although...After seeing more pictures of it on google images, I'm not overly convinced :o

What is the general opinion on the Geforce 555? Is it up to running games at 1080p nice and smooth?

I wonder if it will be fairly easy to upgrade? (Heat / size permitting?)

:)

It is between a 550ti and a 560 (not the ti) so its ok. It can be easily upgraded but you have to make sure that whatever you put in it does not draw more than 150W as the PSU is a crock.
