alienware m11x screen problems URGENT

helppp cut a long story short the screen on my alienware m11x does not come on, it basically thinks that the lid is shut when it aint, how does a laptop know when the lid is shut down and what can i do help needed asap as i need this laptop urgently

Either by switch or magnets in the lid.

Why not call dell?

If you need an image displayed hook it up to an extenal display.
