I have an Alienware m18 r1 which works fine with a odd exception that if I shut it down and leave it for sometime 2+ weeks maybe longer as I rarely use it it won't power on as if the battery has fully drained but as soon I plug the charger it it boots straight up and shows 60-70 charge for example and is fine if I then unplug it. If I use it more regularly it doesn't do this. It's not a major issue for me as 9/10 it's used on mains anyway, just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar it's out of warranty now so can't contact dell

What's the health of the battery? Should show in the BIOS and Dell applications such as Dell Update and Dell Support Assist etc.
If it's poor, which it sounds like it is, then a new battery should be easy enough to source and replace.

Just checked, passes scan using dell support assist, in the bios the battery health shows as excellent, having said that its littery gone flat in about 25 mins of not doing anything other than screen being on
