Alienware X51

Im willing to spend £200 extra on it so it fits inside my back pack and onto my music rig. I really have no space atm, and i can probably get a fair bit back off my current parts.
I just found a strip down video online and it takes full double sized cards. Im seriously considering it. All the small cases i can find that take full sized gpu's are the same form factor as the sugo, is there anything else like this that takes them?

EDIT: Ok, so the card can draw a max of 150w apparently, but i think that's on the smaller power packs. Would that be enough for a GTX560?

The SG05 is tiny though and will be quieter and cooler. It is smaller than a shoebox so will easily fit in a back pack. Alternatively you could go for a Lian-li Q11 which would allow you to use your existing PSU and is like an SG05 standing on its end so has an even smaller footprint (it is actually slightly larger though).

But at the end of the day its your money. The Nvidia website says max power draw on the 560 is 150W.

Based on experience of other prebuilt SFF builds. Unless they are low power HTPCs they have some of the worst heatsinks I have ever seen.

As much as gropingmantis's repeating knocking of a new product that none of us have actually seen let alone used is annoying me I have to agree that Dell's USFF PCs get annoyingly loud after a month or two and a bit of dust gets in them. The external PSU bricks also get pretty toasty and the kettle cables fall out way too easy - I work in a school that used to be full of them until I turned up :)

I'm glad to see Alienware building smaller PCs even though theses aren't really going to be practical - as everyone has said they are too expensive for the gaming performance they offer with that GT555 in it, but they are a step in the right direction for showing people small doesn't mean low powered.

Personally the LC19 & ML02 (which can't be much bigger) looks a lot better, but the do cost a lot for a case and the stock PSU is a little on the small side, but for me the SG05 is not that small when you are looking for something to hide or fit into a media rack. Yes it has a small foot print, but the cube shape means you have to have it on a desk really, rather than behind a screen, on top of your Amp...

I think in this respect the X51 has found a nice little place for those who don't want to build their own and have the money. Personally for me (and I'm sure many of you) I'd build my own as we can choose the components we want, but for those who don't... :)

Wonder what the jumbo power brick looks like.

The internals shot definitely has no room for a PSU.

So a 240 or 330W power brick? Brick indeed?

Found it. Ahaha.

Case looks ace but the price OMG the price, will stick with my lian li Q11

On a seroius note totally recomend mini itx gaming rigs I take mine to lan it handles well not as good as my home pc but for an i3 540 @ 3.8 with a gtx 460 on a H55N-USB3 it plays the lan games i need it to. and stays cool enough.

It was my first venture into Itx and I'm looking to do a new gaming/lan build when the z77 range comes out. (will post project logs when it goes ahead :) )

Cool enough for my compact gaming ITX means the GPU stays below 90 degrees (a decent achievement just to get that) :D

Needs to be a fairly warm room to hit 80+ but such a thing is possible.

I forgive all that because at the end of the day I can fit the entire thing plus screen, keyboard, cables, mouse and some tools into a backpack smaller than a tower case and walk off with it.

Which in fact I have been doing :)

They've actually got significant cooling in that case, you can see the volume of "empty space" and shrouding which is arranged near the CPU and GPU for airflow.

Can't see it overheating but to me it's still on the large side of small and they didn't get the power supply inside which is something to add to it's volume (and weight) if you want to carry it about.

If you don't want to carry it about, it's an expensive tower for what's inside.

Dont get the hate, Ideal for someone like me who wants a gaming machine. Doesnt want to spend 1000 on a gaming laptop and doesnt have space in their flat for a full size PC (I really dont).
perfect for me... and upgradable

The hate is only because if you know how to build a computer yourself you can build a similar spec for much cheaper and the same size or more powerful and slightly bigger. :)

i would never buy a brand new alienware.. my m17x r2 was a replacement for my dell xps 1730 where the gfx cards kept cooking themselves! and i got an area 51 with an i7 920 do steppnig cpu for £300 off a friend at work who spends money on pcs every year and then sells em on a year later for silly money.

I like both systems but they are over priced! same goes for the new x51. looks nice but is too much money. then again for how thin the case is and how portable it can be i guess it will sell quite well.

I was going to get an Alienware x51.

Reading the Dell forums made me reconsider, and I am glad I did. Getting OC to build my new PC is a nappy medium between buying off the shelf (I love the hassle free nature of that) and building myself (more than capable, but really don't enjoy it!)

Alienware seem to be having supply problems making their already long delivery times longer. They are also having problems with assembly that has been damaging the DVD drives.
