im just wondering if any AOL users on here have had a very bad download speed last phew days, im on 8meg, i usually get 700kb/s download speed,

but for last phew days ( Early hours between 1am-8am have been fine :S) i have been getting max download speed of 60kb/s i have done multiple speed tests and all are very bad.

im not going to ring aol just yet as every time i ring them i end up very very angry as the lack of common sense and inteligence most of them plonkers have:mad:

be good if you could use

Speedtest.net or Internetfrog.com to have a check ;)

My result
Download - 571 kbps

but Should be around - 7800 kbps

i wondered why i was getting high ping and disconnected on cod4 ! god dam, i have been with aol for 6 or 7 years never had this problem so thats why im wondering if others have the same problem

Thanks again

mines not been too great all week either. random high pings and under 100k/sec downloads, only connecting at 2.8mbit as well.

Hopefully its just some problems they are having that will get sorted out.

after nearly an hour on the phone to AOL here's what they have told me

The UK has a nation wide fair usage policy of 60GB downloads per month on all ISP's.
If you exceed this 60GB you can be kicked off your ISP or have your download speeds capped for 2 months till your downloads are under 60gb for that 2 months then you will have your full speed resumed.
The guy sent me a screenshot, showing;

August - 38GB
September - 40GB
October - 123GB!! -(just got PS3)

november isnt available as aparently the stats are updated every 2 months.
I was told as long as i behave myself (keep under 60gb total) for november and december then in january I will get my full service resumed.
I guess till then i'll have to piddle away at 30odd k a second in utorrent.

Good news aparently is that it doesnt effect stuff coming over port 80 aka web based browsing, as I just confirmed by loading a 1080p apple movie trailer in just a few mins.

Yeah I can see it's rubbish, the boy should have said "AOL's fair usage policy is 60GB"
Turns out though AOL are just like SKY, they break under pressure.

I just phoned AOL again and got through to a nice and helpfull irish lassie, and told her, uncap it or give me my mac code... waddya know, i'm getting uncapped by the 19th of this month.
So to anyone else on AOL that's been capped, u know what to do!

lol that really worked?
I might put it a nicer war but im going to try that as i have been on the policy for flipping months.
Tell me if it has actually been removed because they said the same thing to me and nothing has happened.

Of course you've been on it for month's, its what AOL now operate, an FUP, your on it for life or till you move, they aint gona take you off it, its part of their service lol.

Ok will let you know by wed if my speeds have improved, if not i'll just change isp's.

Block must have been removed now, speedtest.net showing just under 5mbit now. that was pretty quick. omg aol doing what they say for a change!

EDIT-
Yeah definately unblocked, just downloaded norther strike booster pack for 2142 off ea link and it averaged just over 500k/sec with peaks of over 700k/sec

yeah I have also been having the same issues as the OP

60ish max kbps during the day and like 600kbps late night/really early morning :(

Could it be my recent 360 demo downloads since upgrading to elite?

not its nothing to do with your demo, its as was mentioned before, aol fair use policy of max 60gig a month.

from 4.30 -12.00 you will be capped, its basically capped at peak times if i am not wrong.

so its time to jump ship.

Oh lordi, i forgot i made this thread :p so ive been monitoring, and for the last week now i have been getting around 60kb/s from 7:30 - 10:30 EVERY DAY after and before is perfect 750kb/s

just a bit of a coincidence that the best gaming time is between 6-10 :(!!!!!! TYPICAL

strange that ive been on aol for years and years and never noticed.....

the fair usage policy is a load of absolute SH**, does my head in, your paying 30pound a month to get 60kb/s at the Main online gaming time of the whole day!, and aol advertises there high package as a '' For Gamers ''

and i go and play bf2 and cod4 online at them times and it literally is unplayable and i have played at them times for the last year and it hasn't been like this until the last week, so it must have only just started.

Getting poor speeds here over the last couple of days.

I normally get a good 3mb but last few days it's been quite erratic, drifting from 512mb~ 2mb.

I will be leaving as soon as the contracts up :)
