Reset the file associations. Best try it in safe mode.

I don't think its a virus, I'm pretty sure it was me faffing with poweriso.

lmfao, you could try it in safe mode. This might result in a format. Don't you have an image you can go back on like ghost or acronis? If not, its about time your learnt an image system.
I'm glad this amuses you.. A format is probably a good idea and no I don't have an image because I don't need one! I can get to all the game saves/outlook files I need and I don't store anything precious on the boot drive and I back it up on a NAS.
I did and it didn't work as its xp and I'm vista but it did point me in the right direction of searching google for a reg fix which has now worked.. cheers!

It's funny because in 8 years of working with pcs, I have to say this is the first time I have ever heard of this happening.
With an image though you can have you operating system back up within 6 minuits instead of around 30 minuits.
I'm not saying you have anything precious but it saves reinstall time that is all.
I did and it didn't work as its xp and I'm vista but it did point me in the right direction of searching google for a reg fix which has now worked.. cheers!

I have heard of this happening! Chances of it being this, though are quite slim.
It happens when you try to run a certain version of an Unreal Tournament cheat; one which costs 50 Euros to buy, and is tied to your machine number. It is called 'Helios Hook', or something like that. Try to run it on any other machine and it changes these extensions.
I also believe the w32.supernova does this., which is more likely.
