I noticed another post for help is unanswered for over a week and the board appears to be unmodderated according to the spam. I believe I got a link to this program via warp2search.com (which I trust) and one of its "selling" points was that it was approved by microsoft. I'm not sure about that now.

If anything this is a warning not to use this clumsy program especially its registry altering functions.

Unfortunately I did not realise I had no restore point before I started mucking about with that POS optimiser program.

Well tbh, if I can't find a solution I'll just reinstall. I have win xp sp3, win 7 utltimate and this win 7 ultimate sp1 installed. I don't make partitions big enough to accomodate service packs extracting on the OS partition.

I'm just limping along atm, can open programs with windows key + r and task manager and they hold a list of recently opened programs. Ouh also windows key + e works, just read about that searching for a solution.

That crap program killed all my sendto list. I will have to look up where the sendto folder is again. Edit: no the sendto shortcuts are there but same problem.

You could try restoring the file associations for .exe files as that could cause all the shortcuts to break: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html

Ok just email the guy back after he sent reg file to fix it and told him what I thought about his program. It looks good atm back to normal. I would have probably been ok with it but getting banned from that forum is ridiculous. All I said was that I suggested a user uninstall this program since he got no reply for help in 7 days, and there was spammy chain letter type posts on the board.

I tried two programs before the registry file:

Iolo System Mechanic
had a fix shortcuts routine which didnt fix my shortcuts, I think it was an answer in a yahoo question.
TweakNow power pack 2011 also did not fix it only the registry files.

CCleaner, spybot s&d, spyware blaster, and malware-bytes are programs I use which don't cause problems. Just because one "car" is unreliable you can't generalise.

Yes - deleting old temporary files and scanning for malware are good ideas. Letting a program mess with your registry when its website is mostly nonsensical and it has no reviews from reputable tech sites is definitely not a good idea, though.
