Hi All

Recently purchased a Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" and just not getting on with what seems to be harsh anti-glare coating. Although most of the reviews say how great this monitor is, I find it hard to use for prolonged periods and catch myself noticing the picture isn't quite right at times when gaming which is frustrating!

No matter what I do, always seems present and its just ruining my viewing pleasure.

I really like the build quality of the U2412M feels really solid and well built, feels like a more expensive monitor than it really is.

I'm after a 24" mainly for gaming with a mix of FPS, RPG and RTS and watching the occasional film.

Budget of around £240.

Can anyone suggest an alternative please?

I have the same monitor and know exactly what you mean. I *hate* the AG coating looks all sparkly and lacking detail (strokes NEC 20WGX2)

However, rather than replace it, why not remove the AG layer from the screen. If you google it, lots of treads about that process. I am summoning up the courage..

If it works, you'll have a lovely glossy screen (watch out for reflections) if it doesn't, well, you can still buy a new monitor :p

Interesting, I wasn't aware you could simply remove the coating - I see what you mean about courage now haha!!

Let me know how it goes :P

What made you gravitate to this particular monitor Stulid?

Looks very smart, does it have a brushed Aluminium bezel?

Firstly on the g2460Pqu I will simply repeat what I've said on another thread:

As for the g2460Pqu I have an extremely thorough review on my website (see forum signature) and have done since the end of July. The long and short of it is, it's not actually all that responsive and there are many things AOC could've done better. The image quality is at least somewhat superior to its direct competition (ASUS and BenQ) but that's about it.

As noted in the review the bezel is actually plastic with a brushed metal (or wood grain) texture. It does have what I'd consider to be the best image quality of the current crop of 24" 144Hz monitors, but it isn't miles ahead of the BenQ XL2411T/20T(E) in that regard and flags behind when it comes to responsiveness. It would still offer vastly superior responsiveness to your U2412M at high frame rates, though, due mainly to the refresh rate. The screen surface is not all that dissimilar to the U2412M's though, a little lighter but not much. So it might still bother you.

If you are particularly happy with the size of the U2412M, the resolution and everything really apart from the screen surface then I would highly recommend considering the BenQ BL2411PT. Again there's a full review on my website. It offers improved colour reproduction, responsiveness and a lighter matte screen surface compared to the U2412M so is a good upgrade. I don't like to recommend models OcUK don't stock, though, so also consider the ASUS VS24AHL which is very similar (apparently - same panel anyway).

The price, the screen is nice with strong colours and a good backlight.

It has a fully adjustable stand (kitguru said it was one of the best - http://www.kitguru.net/peripherals/monitors/zardon/aoc-g2460pqu-144hz-24-inch-monitor-review/5/) in fast action games ive not noticed any ghosting or such what.

It has plenty of inputs and four USB ports and finally if you want them it has speakers hidden away, the bezel is plastic.

I have been using your site actually, very informative!

I hadn't considered the BL2411PT, thanks for your input :)

On the short list i think!

Do you notice any glare from the monitor?
