All the Hype !!!

I'd been buying hardware long before the 2900 :D but yes maybe I did become a more of an active poster in here from it :p
I can tell you are a man that's been in the game for many moons Tom (chuckle) I was just saying I personally became aware of you during your crusade as an ATI Beta tester.

What hardware have u obsessed as much about as you did with the HD2900XT?

Like before that card?

Hmm. Tough. I did have a thing for my X800 only thing was the pipes wouldn't unlock from 12 to 16 which was a kicker. I even had the VIVO chip but I didn't have one of the "lucky" ones. My X1900XT was also a stonking card which flashed up to XTX that lasted me over a year!

I'm definetely more of an ATi man than an NV but I'll take either both have their plus points. I've had 5 NVIDIA cards this year alone!

Like I said I think you were a nOOblet up to the point the HD2900XT was launched . . .you took a big toke of R600 and took off, your post count literally increase by 4 thousand posts in a month or some really short period of time! :p

Historically speaking the HD2900XT was the one launch day you proper lost the plot, most of the time you seem to dance to the beat of your own drum kinda.

I wasn't suprised at all you didn't buy a HD4870

Then wouldn't it have made sense for me to get the 8800GTX over a 2900?

Saying that the 2900 wasn't exactly a budget killer. Infact far from.

I look at my options vastly before choosing I know I wanted GX2 speed, I considered a pair of 4850s but I would have needed a new board for those and the bill was coming in at around 380. This time the GX2 came up for just a smidge more than a 4870 and didn't involve a change of board so I took my chance and went for that. A few teething problems mainly down to horrific multi gpu drivers but when it works it works very very well. I'm pleased.

May check out the 4870X2 but with my new job approaching I'll be AFK a lot more so I don't think I'll really be as involved as I have been.

Not read all the way through this but did anyone meantion PCI-E bandwith? if this is cut to x8/x8 or x16/x4 or whatever, Or PCI-E 1.1 over 2.0 it can really afect the scores/performance you get.

Just a thought.

Im actually pretty much suffering from tech upgrade craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaze at the moment! lol! Sold my HD3870 put in my 2600XT for a bit then got an 8800GT which was pretty much gubbed from day 1 since the core wouldnt and i mean WOULDNT post above 650Mhz which everyone found strange, alas the card died after 2weeks so I was happy with my full refund. Then I picked up a 9800GTX for £140 brand new 2weeks ago and now im sitting here thinking should I just buy a 4850 or a 4870 out of sheer curiosities sake.....its just crazy just now! Im going to try to wait until the 4870X2 comes out, if I can do that il be very pleased with myself! Then il sell my 9800GTX to my bro or something since he's still using his 7950Gx2 which is still holding up relatively well!

My 3dmark of 17250is has improved by 400!!!

And this has been shown in all reviews as well had you read them carefully.

You picked the only (and the worse) benchmark that the 4850 doesn't have an advantage in to do comparisons.

but in all other games and benchmarks the 4850 really flies.

Like others said play some real games, turn up the graphics and enjoy :)

Why are you getting worked up about a 3DMark 06 score at standard resolution?

No video card is going to improve it by that much, as it is very much CPU bound. If you want a higher 3DMark06 score, then upgrade your processor.

I look at similar systems a see their score and feel pooh'd. I routed out my old bench for crysis and thats up by 25% so suppose it isn't all doom & gloom. rFactor and GTR2 are my main games and no difference really. Sod it I'm goona get a 280GTX.. :)

It's not just the numbers game, I wanna max it out with a full grid at 60fps and v-sync. I want it to be smooth off the grid. I did wounder about getting a 3870X2 and having 3 gpus' on the go.
