All these years I've been doing it wrong (ooh err)

Yesterday I started moaning at the wife while I was transferring people's gigs to a master gig list on Facebook and their misuse of exclamation marks.
So I explained to her what they are doing and she couldn't see anything wrong so I thought she was also mad.
She asked me to explain what I thought an exclamation mark meant and I said it means 'You're not sure'
eg is it black or dark blue!
Now even though I'm dyslexic and will read this 15 times before I hit post I'm not too bad with grammar once I've checked it multiple times.
She told me to look it up on Google and I was wrong, 65 years I've been wrong :(
I know I've used it 100s of times on here when I've not been sure so it's going to be hard to not do it from now on.

Anyway, anything you've found out much later in life that you had got completely wrong for years/decades?

I'll see your misuse of exclamation marks and raise you the misuse of apostrophe's on here.*

*Disclaimer: the above abomination was intentional.
