Hi,

This is the second time this has happened so I was wondering if anyone here knows what's up before I take it in for a check.

I parked and locked up last night and went into the house. One or two hours later, a kind soul knocked on the door and said all my windows were down. How?

Cheers.

You might want to say which car, its not really a general problem.

You could always disconnect battery and if it still does it then be worried

Some cars have an auto windows down function if you hold the unlock button for a set time.

Sometimes you do this without knowing or the system shorts and causes the windows to go down.

Ahhh that might be it. I'll try it later because I did have my keys in the same pocket as my wallet so maybe the unlock button was being held in.

Cheers.

Look in the instructions for info but thats usually the case, best i've used was a Z4 you held the BMW button and the roof came down, now that looked soooooo cool!

VW definately had the feature but I thought it only worked when you put the key in the door and did it? Hold in unlock position to wind down. Hold in lock position to wind up? I could be wrong though.

Reason I asked if it was a Passat as I seem to remember a gremilin they had whereby the windows would just go down an the doors would randomly unlock if something was done... (Fiddling with the boot springs to mind...).

I know on my golf, if I leave the key turned to the left(in the door) for about 4 seconds all the windows come down. Perhaps it's something to do with that, which has broken/shorted.

You were right guys. :) I just tried it and they went down after holding unlock for 3 seconds. Says so in the manual too.

Thanks again.

My Brother had a Golf which wound the windows down of it's own accord - but only when it rained mind.

Nice car, shame to see it go.

Ahh, the infamous auto vent / total closure that is VW madness.

Be sure to keep your keys in view all the time. I would imagine if this kept happening the battery in the fob would drain pretty quick

Is it a Passat / VW?

Funny that you should say that...

My parents went to Italy in the VW Passat and parked up outside their hotel and went in for the night.

The following morning all the windows where down by a cm or so and my dads laptop was stolen from the boot...

Woke up one morning to find all my windows open on my car, exactly the same thing - I'd sat on my keys in my pocket while on the PC or something. It had REALLY rained in the evening but thankfully it didn't during the night. Also, no Slough chavs noticed and had the 16:9 head unit or whole car away!
