All windows went down after locking up

Although this appears to be a case of the fob button being pressed accidentally, there certainly have been reports of some VAG cars winding the windows down for no apparent reason.

What gets me, at least on mine, is the auto re-lock function. Basically if you unlock the car but don't open any doors for about 30 seconds then it locks itself again, to guard against accidentally pressing the unlock button. Fair enough. The problem is that if you unlock it and use the fob to window the windows down, 30 seconds later it locks itself and then the slightest breeze will set off the motion sensors and the alarm goes off!

You can turn the motion sensors off when you lock it if you need to so why can't the car do this for you when it re-locks after winding the windows down? Smart-arse engineers missed a trick there.

I thought it was to stop people hijacking your car if you stopped to talk to someone or when you put the trolley away in the supermarket etc.

Hold the unlock button on the keyfob and the windows will go down. Hold the lock button and they will go up. At least thats how it works on the 8p A3s.

I know there's a security flaw on early Mk4 Golfs where robbers can easily get into the car without causing any damage, via a similar method to what happened to your car, however I doubt the flaw will still be present in the Mk5.

Well they'd have trouble hijacking it without the key and as soon as you open a door the re-lock is cancelled.

As for shopping, there's a separate button for the boot which disarms the alarm and opens just the boot then re-arms the alarm when you close the boot.

I never go 10 feet from my car without locking it anyway, with a remote there's no excuse to leave it unlocked even for a second really.

This happened to my car on holiday in spain, locked the car via the remote and all the windows shot down to the same height.

Thankfully it was all good afterwards, minor heart attack though!
