Alloy Cleaner

I use Bilberry and a small brush, but if you've got quite a bit of brake dust baked on you may need a stronger acid based cleaner.

Comma Alloy Wheel cleaner is what I used on mine recently, VERY good stuff, it comes in a complete kit with glove, brush, spray. Once you spray it on and begin to brush off the bakes in brake dust you can see how easily it lifts stains/tar/brake dust off - very good stuff.

It was a tossup between Wonderwheels and the Comma as they both got similar reviews in Auto Express and both cost the same.

Think I'll have a look at that Comma stuff since my local place stocks Comma stuff so hopefully they've got it. Either that or the Wonder Wheels.

It smells quite strong btw, and if you get it on your hands it won't burn them until the skin melts off but rather irritate them a bit - nothing major. It's pink in colour too so you know exactly where it's running in case you miss a bit after wiping

I bought some Autoglym stuff from Halfords the other day, £5.99 (buy 2 get 1 free at Halfrauds), worked really really well on my alloys.

ive got some carplan wonderwheels and also some virosol, rate them both about equal tbh! I got 3 big bottles of carplan from costco for £8, they charge £9 for one of them from halfrauds!

I also bought 3 bottles of "carplan wonderwheels" from Costcos on someone on heres recommendation... Works very well, id also recommend some Alloy Wheel Wax, i got a bottle when i had my 2nd hand alloys refurbed and the brake dust now just hoses off much easier than un-treated alloys.

I use Meguiar's Hot Wheels and whilst it's good, DO NOT leave for more than 10 seconds; left it too long on my mum's clio's alloy wheels and they lost their shine and the centre logo which was stuck on a plastic came loose a bit. The way the container is, you cannot dilute it. I prob wouldn't buy it again despite cleaning well.

Wonder wheels, but don't leave it on too long if you like your alloys' lacquer.

do not be using either of these regularly

If your the sort of person to clean your wheels once every 2 months, or only once you've forgotten what colour they used to be you'll probably be ok

But these (Wonder Wheels and Megs Hot Rims) are both very strong cleaners. If your going to be cleaning every week etc. then get something much milder as you will eat away your lacquer.

Agree with Scottland. Bilberry is excellent stuff. Use it neat for baked-on brake dust, get your wheels clean. Seal them with something like ChemicalGuys 'Wheelguard', and then you'll only ever need a 1:4 dilution to keep them nice.

To reiterate:

VIROSOL.

A gallon from here:

This is what I bought and it's amazing stuff. Seems safe (i.e. no more paint/lacquer has dropped off my wheels since using it), eats through brake dust and tar, and goes a long way (I dilute mine 50% with water). It's the best stuff I've used, far better than Hot Rims and Wonder Wheels.

Also great for cleaning BBQs. :D

Avoid Wonder Wheels if you like lacquer on your alloys.
