can i get them refurb (powder coating) from these guys
lap-tab.co.uk or citypowdercoating.co.uk in the birmingham or what should i do?

thanks
Alan

:( that much?? i was hoping £20 per wheel. cant they just powder coat over the scratched and scuffed wheels?

I just paid £300 to get mine repainted which I think was a bit too expensive. I got a set of 4 17" alloys sandblasted and powdercoated about 5 years ago and that cost £130 (was £160 if tyres had to be removed). Obviously it'll have gone up in price since then.

Yes.

If you want the wheels done properly, and for the finish not to fall apart in a few months and be worse than it is now

They need to be properly stripped back ie sand blasted, and then repainted.

Try and get the seller to pick up some of the tab ? I'd have raised this with them before agreeing the sale tbh.

Have a look at Speedwell's in Birmingham. They did a set of badly corroded/damaged 20" wheels for a mates Jeep. They came out looking perfect, and 4 months on - still look very well done.

Was thinking of getting my M3 Motorsport wheels done there as well with a polished lip.

And you don't (or shouldn't) sand blast alloys really. Chemical dip is the best way and ususally a cheaper process as it's a 20 second job.

Generally when people buy cars they look at the state of them first and then a price is agreed based on what they see.

no harm in asking for a good will gesture is there ?

I agree he has no legal right to return the car or anything like that. i was just suggesting that maybe a polite request might get a contribution towards it :)

At the end of the day the refurber will do it how they want to. I was just suggesting he get them properly stripped and repainted, rather than by touching them up and spraying over the top on the cheap.

Those wheels on the hinda's are a mare, they have a diamond cut finish, very difficult to get that finish again, well not difficult more expensive lol!!!

Try A1 wheels in bilston aswell, they get good write ups by all accounts. Personally i'd look on Honda forums or ebay for another secondhand set, i sold a set 2 years ago for £200.

common trick with polished wheels like that is not to polish them again and just paint them.

Seen a few M3 19" wheels have this done and theres barely any difference, and so much easier to maintain.

Rotty gave up in the end with his iirc and put some CSLs on.

you could try these guys, i got a quote of about £200 for a set of 4, some nice finish choice and really well done, i have the smoked chrome finish on my bmw alloys and they look great,

this is the finish i went for, these wheels are normally a bright silver:

Yeah I think these are the e36 ones which should be forged and polished from the factory, I've heard it's not really possible to get the finish right when re-polishing polished wheels so I think I'll probably get the centres powder coated, and then get the lips polished.

Stupid question, but are polished wheels lacquered afterwards?

Why are there still curbing marks on that wheel (right side of wheel in pic)? Did you curb it again straight away?

yes

and its the lacquer that peels / chips away that leaves bare metal exposed.

This bare metal then oxidises and goes that sort of white colour that makes them look so unattractive.
