OK I've got a quote from a place in Stoke that does alloy wheel refurbishment but I'm not sure what to do with regards to finish / colour.

This is there price list http://www.alloy-wheel-refurb.co.uk/pricelist.htm
And they state the following finishes:
  • Powder Coat Finish
  • Sparkle Silver / Bentley Silver Finish
  • Hyper Silvers Smoked Chrome Effect Finish

This is my car with the current finish. What would you say best describes my current finish and should I go for a simple refurb in the same colour?

Feel free to shop the pics to show if you think a better colour would suit.

Split tims (2 piece) Split, refurb rim & centre, re-assemble From £120

God having split rims is a pain in the arse

In answer to your question, I would have thought the best way to check is to take your car to them, or at least email them a pic and ask their advice. Impossible to tell what colour the paint is from their description.

PC Silver or Sparkle silver looks closest to yours.

I thought about making your wheels darker like a Pewter finish but thinking about it more I'd say straight forward refurb in similar finish. Looks nice as it is.

I split mine myself, took the 2 seperate parts to be coated (I wanted the bolts to be a diff colour) and then put them back together myself - As I was doing so, I snapped the head off one of the bolts. Cue several hours drilling out a titanium bolt, and then re-threading the hole. Nightmare!

Cheers guys, will ask them to comment on the current colour from a photo as it's easier than me going down there.

So do we think the current colour most suits the car?

the best finishes are a combination of powder coating and painting

Powder coating on its own wont produce very shiny finishes, and has a very narrow range of colours

Painting on its own isnt very durable as kerbing will take the paint off easily.

Check that the place that does it, puts a powder coat underneath the paint. If not, get yourself over to :

www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk

I honestly will get a photo of my wheels considering i keep banging on about them. They are also one of the few refurb companies who refurb the whole wheel. Tyre is taken off completely, entire wheel is shotblasted back to bare metal

you can then have a powder coat finish (cheapy) or have a "special" finish which is paint over the top. This is more expensive, but for my 19"s it was £300 for all 4, including rebalancing with nice shiny new wheel weights and valves / valve caps.

How much did it cost to get the split pieces painted then? Actually splitting/fixing the wheel doesn't look too hard, just time consuming.

Looks like I'll be getting this done either this month or early next.

Going to get 4 new tyres installed at the same time as I'd rather they fitted the tyre than some spanner monkey who doesn't car about your rims!

Got a quote this morning from the above link (wheelspecialist) and it was £253 for 4 fully refurbed wheels in matt black (17").

About an hour later, they phoned me up and offered 30% off and emailed me that quote in a few minutes. Full refurb and paint, £177!

Worth a phone call guys!

Tyres are now sitting in my garage. Normally go with the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's which are the OEM tyre but for half the price and with good recommendation I'm giving the Falken 452's a go. Can't book my car in for a few weeks as I need to take the car in for the day for them to be done. Will let you know and post some before and after pics etc.

Glad you got the discount too. I wasnt sure if everybody got it, so refrained from saying that i got 30 % off, just in case not all dealers offer it. The wheel specialist is effectively a franchise, so the actual owner of the shop can charge what he wants.

So the price you get quoted on the internet, usually has 30% off applied if you do all 4 wheels.

Service is also top notch, if you've got any problems or whatever, i can vouch for the after sales support :)

Haven't got mine done yet, but I can now beat that previous 30% off. I need mine doing same day, which means stripping of tyres and new valves/re-balancing.

So, I gave them a call to find out how much extra that would be. A very nice lady from the Birmingham branch said that it would be an extra £10 per wheel + VAT. Also asked how much for having the centre caps painted too. She said, she could do the whole lot (wheel refurb, centre caps and stripping/fitting tyres) for £200 inc the VAT!

Bargin!

She even emailed me the quote and said it was good for 30 days!!!!!
