hi all...

I'm thinking of treating myself (and my car) to some alloys, since ive now learned out to park without hitting those kerbs :p

I'm looking at getting some multi spoke wheels for my fiesta 1.25 mk6, kinda like OZ Super Turismo. I know its not a super car, but i do plan on getting a focus 1.6 within 2 years once my NCB builds, and id be fine transferring the wheels over right?

however i got a few questions/worries:

1: Whats the best online places for alloy wheels? Right now Halfords is cheaper for the Super Turismo's i would like, than the online shops i know of, but a lot of people laugh when people mention halfords, and buying parts from them. What is POTN like? they seem to be one shop, with MANY MANY sub-shops selling same products under different shop names. Seems a tad strange?

2: what if i had a puncher, and had to fit the spare which is the original 175/65/R14? I'm looking at 16s or 17s, surely id need to get some sort of spare in the 16-17s size? I know 16s with 45 profile is almost the exact same size as a R14 with 65 profile but what if i get 17's?

3: insurance... On average, how much would my Insurance go up to?

as i said, i'm looking at OZ Super Turismo's, but I've also seen some nice alloys that i can only remember being call HRS's yet i cant find them anywhere! I'm looking at Toyo's or goodyears on these wheels, and that's one problem with Halfords, they use some weird brand.

ta.... Suggestions, and pics of your alloys welcome :)

Personally i would not stick 16's or 17's on a 1.25 fiesta, it will slow the car down, makes the ride crashy, get less mpg and tramline more.

Odds are in two years time you won't want to hang onto the wheels so i would get that out of your head tbh.

You can fit the current spare since if you buy the right tyres the rolling radius will be the same.

depends who you are insured through, some don't charge other charge £50 - £100.

It is a small car so don't stick oversize wheels on it, also if you were transfering wheels to a focus, you would need to change the tyres on it to suit the rolling radius of that car. Seriously stick with 15" wheels with the correct size tyres which I think would be 45/50 profile.

If I was you I would try and source some Zetec-S alloys, these are 15" with the correct size tyres and are very similar in style to Superturismos. As they are standard ford wheels they will most likely add less/nothing to your insurance. They should also be pretty cheap to buy off somewhere like ebay/ZSOC.

Edit: Just realised you said mk6, in which case I think you can get away with 16" wheels due to the massive arches. Perhaps look for Mk6 Z-S/ST alloys.

Don't go for 17's. They look gash on most small/small engined cars.

I'd say the Fezza can pull off 16's easily. They're a nice compromise between 15 and 17's and won't hurt performance much... if at all.

The OZ's are pretty light IIRC.

My mates got 17s on his Mk3 and they look great, but the ride is crap and I think the handling would be better on 16s, but it does alright with them.

I'd do go for 16s though, plenty on a small car.

ello been out all night/day so not had chance to reply... not much positive feedback on getting alloys, but at least its all polite and true. ta :)

i did think of the compromise of 16s, with toyo proxies... and OZ Super Turismo do come in 16s. However i dont think Eagle F1's come in 16s? how much better than proxies are Eagle's?

my mate even mentioned just getting 15s as they would be much cheaper and wont alter the ride much?

he also mentioned getting them second hand from fleabay or something, but i really do not trust 2nd hand gear over the net.

either way i might wait a few more months before i do anything as im thinking ICE should come first, since im pretty sure what i want already.

around March 07 (birthday that month) i do plan on doing a brandshatch track day, so will ruin the current rubber/brakes, so by then i would need to choose what to be getting...or not to be getting... just want to get ideas in my head...i like planning ahead.

I have 205/50/16 Eagle F1's on my car :)

As for Proxies, hmmm put it this way, they are all the rage amongst owners of cheaper performance cars yet on the BMW M5 owners club site, people fit F1's ;)

didnt you post in another thread saying how its not worth people commenting on tyres as nowhere has done a proper test for all tyres in all situations or something?

Its called badge snobbery :p

T1-Rs are more than suitable for any Ford.
