yes police where involved, had to ring them also as there might have been more horses on the road..

Report that to the police as well. It's actually an offence to allow a dog to roam around in the road I think. Comes with a big fine.
 
I had something similar when up in the north of Scotland, a deer ran out in front of the car when i was doing 60! Fortunately i spotted it coming just in time and slammed on the brakes before we hit it
 
I had a possum run out on me last year, it didn't fare well, and it ripped the bumper off my van on the corner :(
 
Same thing happened to me when I was a hgv driver.....early dark hours on the last stretch to Lancaster...a deer shot out of the bushes in front of me but carried on across the road...startled by me it decided to run in front of me again to head back into the bushes!! And then there was a second one! On the exact same stretch of road another morning I felt a thud. When I pulled over there were two webbed feet sticking out of my trucks grille...I had to pull out this not so small but now departed coot. On the smaller scale of things...ripped a dead bat off the front too lol. To the op....nice moves ;)
