Didn't know if this should be in Sport or Motors so feel free to shift it if it's wrong...

Fernando Alonso has rejoined Renault and will partner Nelson Piquet Jr at the team in 2008.

The 26-year-old double world champion returns to the team he raced for in 2003-2006, winning 15 races and back-to-back world titles.

Renault was thought to be the most likely destination for Alonso to resurface after he ended his McLaren contract two years early last month after a turbulent single season at Woking.

Alonso himself confirmed his return to Enstone on his personal website before Renault issued an official statement on Monday afternoon announcing its new pairing.

"Fernando and Nelsinho will form one of the most exciting driver line-ups of 2008," said team boss Flavio Briatore.

lol. Not quite sure the read of the grid see is that way. He's only gone to renault because nobody else wanted him.

he held out for long enough, he'd had the offer on the table from renault right from day 1He hoped he wouldnt have to admit defeat and come out of 2007 looking like a pre madonna that nobody would touch with a barge pole.

but fortunately he has, and he's had to go to the only decent tea that'll have him.

haha

I think Alonso and Renault have known for a long time that he was going there but they were just waiting for the FIA's decision on the new spying scandal.
I think for him its the right choice but it makes you wonder if Piquet Jr will get a fair drive along side Alonso ?
Id also like to know if its just a 1 year deal or not which most other teams he was talking to didn't want as rumour has it that he has a seat at Ferrari in 2009 and the big question is,is the 2008 Renault going to be any good ? ...cant wait to find out.

Not only do Renault and Briatore think the the sun shines out of Alonso's proverbial, they also worship the ground he walks on. That's precisely what the temperamental Spaniard needs, and exactly the opposite of the position he found himself in at McLaren. He will be unquestioned No. 1 at Renault.

Now with a bit of luck he might calm down a touch and start driving (and acting) like the double world champ he is.

Alonso always seemed 'right' with Renault, and to my eyes looked completely out of place in the whole corporate McLaren world.
