Alphacool water kit problem..

I've just replaced my Tuniq with an Alphacool Starter Kit - however temps are now higher!

The CPU block is labelled IN and OUT, and I have it like this...

OUT from pump to IN on CPU BLOCK
OUT from CPU block to RAD
RAD to IN on pump.

Is this correct? The manual is a bit umm double dutch!

Cheers..

That's certainly the right order. I take it you have bled it of all air. It can be a pain sometimes and you have to jiggle everything around to get it all out. If you have bled it then maybe try reseating the block.

Well.. how do I tell if it's sitting right?

It's on a Xeon X3220.

Something is not right, cos temps with Tuniq were 54, 49, 44, 42 - temps with water are now 70,67,62,62!!!

There's also what appears to be condensation in the top of the pump...

Is there a process to bleed the system? The manual that came with it is written in really poor Engrish!

I don't think it's flowing through the block properly.. I can see tiny bubbles right where the OUT hose comes from and they are not moving..

Is your pump working? Is it vibrating?

You should NOT get any condensation on you pump whatsoever.

But the Alphacool uses a combination pump/res so he probably means condensation on the top of (inside) that.

And having a look at a review the Alphacool was only 3c better than a Zalman 9500 which is worse than a Tuniq Tower...

It's working... Think the condensation was because of the heat of the water in the pump!

I've jigged it all about a bit, and temps have now dropped about 5deg.

Still far too high though! I'm wondering if there's air in the rad..

It was air in the rad... Moved the rad about a bit, the water level dropped. Topped up, and everything feels cool to touch now, unlike before!

However, temps are not exactly marvellous.. reading 50,47,43,40 now - that's not under load..

That's an X3220 clocked to 2.8Ghz..

Want to try to push it higher, but not sure on the temps!

Just re-read your post Raikiri!

Seems I bought a pants water cooler!! Which particular elements of it perform poorly? Maybe I can change some of it.

However, I may look at something else - it needs to fit in my Z-machine GT1000 case though..

Suggestions on a postage stamp please.....

Well, based on your cpu and case you clearly have some money  So:

Rad - Thermochill PA 120
Block - FuZion or Apogee GTX
Tubing - 3/8" although it doesn't have a huge effect on peformance
Pump - DDC 18w

Your current kits main weaknesses cooling wise will be the CPU block and the rad however the pump you currently have isn't all that strong.

Although something like the Apex Ultra kit with the rad mounted externally would do a very good job.

Daft question, but what's the best way of mounting the rad externally?

I'm looking to change the CPU for the QX6850 when it becomes available - I had a little money to spend, so bought the Zalman case, Enermax Galaxy PSU, Raptor 150Gb and the water cooling kit. Seems the water cooling was my weaker choice of the 4!

I'm running an Asus P5K Deluxe, with an EVGA 8800GTX. I wanted to go SLI, but the board won't support it..

My ideal is to minimize the noise from the case, and allow me some O/C headroom..

I originally looked at the Reserator 2, but saw all the comments on OCUK forum and decided against it!

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!

One other thing.. I originally wanted to buy the Apex Ultra+, but OCUK haven't had it in stock for AGES, and I couldn't find anywhere else selling it...
