Bit of a longshot, but does anyone have this head unit and know how to stop the display from 'going black' after 5 seconds? I'm sure I've tried every option in the menus but can't seem to figure it out....

Sounds like a fault.

I have the 9851R which is almost the same, I think "Sam" has the 55R.

Try cleaning the metal contacts between front plate and the face off part. This sorted my screen problem the other day :)

This is a function which you activate. IIRC you need to hold in one of the buttons for a few seconds to turn it on/off. Check your handbook.

It is a function. Two secs I'll dig my manual out. Think it might be in there..

Edit:

Press and hold the Func. button for two seconds to activate or deactivate blackout mode
