I have noticed more these days that Alt-F4 is being disabled in games. Now you cant even exit a game without about going through 3/4 menus.

This really ****es me off when I want to quit a game. As far as I am concerned it is another case of PC gaming being dumbed down to suit the moronic console gamers.

But what is wrong with a nice simple alt-f4?

Games that might make extensive use of the keyboard would be an issue. Users could end up mapping something to the same combo. Yes, you could say that game devs could prevent key mapping to that combo but then users will map something to ALT-F3 or ALT-F5 and then accidentally hit F4 instead and then boom, game quits when they didn't want to.

Stick to CTRL ALT DEL and Task Manager to force quit.

Ctrl Alt Del works fine for me...

Infact in some games - if I use alt F4 to quit, it freezes up and takes longer to exit than going through the menus

Same goes for alt+tab, games should be user friendly by now but that obviously doesn't fit in well with earning the most money on consoles.

It's a real problem; I mean after wasting two or three hours gaming, who wants to waste an extra 10 seconds clicking through some menus?

Ah, the funny memories of seeing random people type in chat for various games "Press alt-F4 for <whatever good thing>" and then seeing other random people suddenly quit or go off-line.

The long winter nights just flew by I tell you.

To avoid any accidents, there should be a confirmation dialogue after pressing Alt-F4.

And now there's no excuse not to be able to alt-f4 out of a game :)
