I used to run a customised controls for the different fans off my Sabertooth Z77 in my Bit Fenix case using the ASUS software. Having not done a huge amount of gaming since becoming a Dad 6 years ago and now working two jobs, I've been messing around with GTA a bit for fun and things are getting toasty now the summer is coming ... so I went to install the ASUS software again only to find it doesn't work with Windows 10 >sad face<

Is there an alternative to Fan Xpert which allows control of all the fans without having to run them from a hardware fan controller?

You could try speedfan. It's free, JayzTwoCents did a good tutorial on it if you need help. The other option might be Argus Monitor which is not free.

Check inside the BIOS, usually it provides the same fan control functions as the additional software (AI Suite), give or take a few features perhaps.

Enter BIOS > Advanced Mode > Monitor tab, scroll down

Have you tried installing the latest version that works with Win 10?

So far all the latest and beta versions have not worked, in the process picked up an internet nasty too. I've got the last version of AI Suite I downloaded a couple of years ago but that gives an error on running setup.exe . Eventually found a link back to ASUS support where they say the AI Suite has been pulled until Asus can fix it - https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1035296

The version you've linked to gives the same error:

And file name 1.05.14 suggests it a 2014 version too?

The link I gave you it to the latest version posted by Asus in January when they had to fix issues with Spectre/Meldown. The link is for an Asus hosted download site. You have to install the older .13 version, then install the .14 DIP over the top. If you want to check the support thread, it's here. It definitely does work with a little bit of hoop jumping, as I'm running it on the latest Win 10 update.

Already tried the link supplied in the first post in that thread and still get the same error when trying to install, if I try to install the AI_SuiteIII_20180213\AI_SuiteIII_20180213\AISuite3_3.00.13\AppSetup\setup.exe I get a DIGI+ VRM install window for a second which then disappears and that's it :( other wise I get the "The model does not support this application" which is annoying as I just looked and the old version I had installed before doing a Win 10 upgrade was AI Suite 1.01.05

old thread but i got the same issue after a new win 10 build, i was running this fine for ages any news on some sort of fix? ive tried a few versions but get same issue as above post

I've seen major updates disable DIP. Just reinstall again and it will install just the DIP version that will give you back the UI. I'm currently running 1.05.19 that I grabbed from a post in the thread I linked to a few above this one. Then you have to re-run the 5 way optimisation or Fan Control depending which you want.

I currently use the Asus ROG AI Suite version of Fan Xpert on Windows 10 for custom fan settings and it works just great.

I think I remember some issues installing it but it's been great since then, apologies I can't remember any more details.

As per that prior post though you can set it all up exactly the same using BIOS fan profiles instead, obviously can't change them on the fly in Windows like with Fan Xpert but still a good solution just doing it in BIOS.

Another Argusmonitor user here. Great bit of software, set it up 6 months ago, & not had to mess with it since.

Think it was about £20 for a 3 year license.

Just to update this, I may have been happy with Fan Xpert in my prior post a couple of weeks back, but since then I got a high airflow Corsair Obsidian 450D case that was harder to set up for silent fans at idle, Fan Xpert wouldn't let me drop some of the included 3 pin AF140 non PWM case fans lower than 60% even in DC mode. So I tried Argus Monitor as recommended and it actually worked, so it's definitely better for fine tuning than Fan Xpert as they're now set to 30% and are pretty much silent, also even better than bios which wouldn't let those AF's go lower than 60% either.

Got a mixture of ML120, ML140s and AF140s all perfectly set up and silent at idle, with eco mode on PSU and fanless mode on GPU. I'll definitely be paying the Argus subscription when the free month is up.
