If anyone is interested, their is an amazing documentary out, "Hungry For Change."
It's very eye opening and goes into a lot of detail about nutrition without being dull and boring. It's actually very gripping even for people not interested in it.
It's available on the American Netflix and It's also available via other means.

Watched it just now...pretty much nonsense w/ v little scientific evidence to support many of the claims. When we hear about 'detox', sugar being akin to heroin and aspartame conspiracy, we know it's pretty much BS. I watched the whole thing and laughed heartily.
I'm very open minded and I'm willing to hear you out. Without sounding cheeky. Can you back up what you're claiming?
What exactly don't you agree with and why? Then can you backup your claim with proof against what's said in the documentary?
I certainly agreed with the vast majority of it.
Just to add. The sugar comparison to heroin was quite clearly an exaggeration trying to make the point it's extremely addictive. Which it quite clearly is.
With regards to aspartame, there is scientific evidence to back up their claims. If you watched it as you said you did... They tell you and show you.
No problem, just give me a minute or two to gather!![]()
That's correct. However I highly doubt they're telling us lies. I'm quite sure they have done a lot of research and know a fair bit about their topic. I could claim I'm an expert in something, I doubt I'd make it onto a DVD about it.What was bad about this film?
1) As with the last film (Food Matters) there were a number of dubiously credentialed so-called experts. For example, a “Traditional and Wild Foods Expert” and a “Cleansing and Detoxification Expert”. Maybe it’s just me but I’m pretty sure anyone could claim to be such “experts”. Also, there were a whole lot of authors. Just because you wrote a book doesn't mean you are a credible source.
Well they say the proof is in the pudding, no pun intended. The man did go from 20 stone overweight to looking like something off the cover of mens health. Surely if all the things he said were BS... He would still be fat and miserable. He also looks very healthy and happy to me. You can't argue with what's in front of you.In addition to this, a number of the authors (e.g. Dr Mercola, and Jon Gabriel) are known pseudo-science hacks who promote unscientific and unsubstantiated claims. Some of their work is dangerous, and not based in fact. Want me to sum up the Gabriel method?: Take lots of fish oil, take lots of flax seed oil and/or grounded flax seeds, vitamin E, a multi vitamin and eat organic foods.
If you want an interesting read, which pretty much covers Dr Mercola's perspective, then google him name and 'microwaves'. Here's two links to get you started:

Why would they benefit from scare mongering. Why would anyone benefit from telling you not to take aspartame. They're not selling you anything or gaining from it in any way. It's a huge controversy and probably always will be. However it appears to be true pilots aren't allowed to take it. There must be enough of it to ring true for that to happen. Not to mention people have done tests where twins drink diet coke and regular while eating the same thing. The twin who drank diet put on more weight than the twin who drank regular. Either way, it's a man made chemical and it certainly wont do you any harm "NOT" taking it... with regards to taking it, well it "MIGHT" not harm you... personally I'd prefer to not take it and stick to natural sweeteners like honey. On to the next.
Aspartame and caffeine, when mixed, kills brain cells. Where is the evidence for this, you might (rightly) ask? Well, a quick google finds nothing, well, except for websites, of - you guessed it - Dr Mercola, Dr Northrup (also in the film) and many other alternative practitioners. I'm pretty sure that if this were true a) Aspartame wouldn't be sold with caffeine, and b) there would be some research out there which proves the link.
This looks dangerously close to scare-mongering and conspiracy, to me.![]()
On to the next.
Oh detoxification. These holistic nutritionists just love their detoxification diets. Listen up: DETOXIFICATION IS BULL****! Sorry, had to get that one out. There is no detoxification system in the body, there's no...actually, let's have doctor explain it better (with a Barbie doll!):
What do you mean conflict of interest with regards to jucing. They all seem to agree it's very good for you. Anyone who claims juicing has no benefits is clearly right off their head. As I mentioned, getting fresh fruit and veg into your system is never a bad thing. This does have scientific research to back it up.Detox is a marketing device. I wonder what they might promote to help with this detox? Oh yes: JUICING! I wonder whether any of the 'experts' might have a conflict of interest? Of course they do...
What about them all??? You have just listed a lot of people and what they've done. What point are you trying to make.Dr Alejandro Junger – a cardiologist who created The Clean Program and wrote a book with the same name – Clean.
David Wolfe – Author of many best-selling books including Eating for Beauty, The Sunfood Diet Success System, Naked Chocolate, Superfoods, and The Longevity NOW Program. He is co-founder of TheBestDayEver.com online health magazine and is President of The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation with a mission to plant 18 billion fruit trees on planet Earth.
Daniel Vitalis – star of the ElixirCraft DVD which merges herbalism, super food nutrition and indigenous understanding.
Frank Ferrante – star of the May I be Frank documentary – shows the healing power of live food nutrition, daily positive affirmations, gratitude and holistic health practices. A former drug and alcohol addict living with Hepatitis C, obesity, pre-diabetes, and depression, Frank is today not only 110 pounds lighter and Hepatitis C-free.
Jason Vale – The Juice Master – Author of the 7lbs in 7 Days Super Juice Diet, Juice Yourself Slim and Kick the Drink…Easily!
That's just some of them as well!
She looks a little chunky to me. Maybe you like fat birds who knows haha! However she is just that, an actress!I think that is enough for now.
Also, the main actress in the film is waging a constant battle with her weight. Yet, to me, she appears to be at a healthy weight. I don’t think it’s promoting the right message to show an attractive healthy woman trying to lose weight.
I see that we're never going to agree - you have clearly bought in to this lifestyle and 'evidence' so there's little I can say which will change your mind! All I can do is offer a different perspective - you stick with Dr Mercola, if that's what you feel is best!
Good luck with your alternative eating goals of 2013.![]()
