I hope this isn't considered a medical thread as all I require is the name of a drug.

I currently take statins and suffer from the various side effects they give. My pharmacist has mentioned there is an alternative drug to statins, but I cannot remember what he said it was.
I don't generally go past the pharmacy to pop back in.

Anyone know what it might be he suggested?
Just want to speak to my GP about it and see what he thinks of it and whether he will prescribe it.

Don't know the answer to your question, but out of interest, what side effects are you experiencing (I also take statins)?

Fibrate?

I was prescribed statins as it seems doctors are coerced into prescribing them like smarties. It was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I came off them three years ago and am still suffering the side effects of them including extreme pain in my arms and legs, lack of sleep, muscle wastage. At the time I suffered with extreme side effects such as nausea and depression.

Patients should ask doctors, “How much longer will I live if I take a statin?” The answer is, not very long. If you’re at high risk of heart disease or stroke and you take a statin for 30 years, you’re likely to live an extra nine months.

I believe statins have substantial side effects which can significantly affect quality of life. Some studies suggest such problems may be much more common than is recognised. In fact I will go as far as to say that the consequences of taking statins have been hushed up as doctors downplay the side effects as something other than statins.

In short : Stop taking statins. They will ruin your life without any of the supposed benefits. There are a number of doctors who agree with this point of view and refuse to prescribe statins as directed by NICE.

For info, statins didn't reduce my cholesterol one bit. Cessation of statins didn't increase it either.

Eat healthy food. Learn to cook if you can't. You don't need to exercise.

I need to do more of this myself. It isn't always easy but it is the best solution.

Red Yeast Rice + CoQ10 is one option. Make the transition with the help of a qualified naturopath. Definitely seek a way to safely come off statins.

Taking the advice of someone with no medical qualifications like a naturopath is not a safe way to come off statins.

As usual someone who is not qualified is giving (wrong) medical advice, this is why these threads get closed.

Fyi, fibrates have the same muscular side effects that statins do.

I may be wrong but these days many businesses have telephones; perhaps your pharmacy has a telephone number listed in some kind of 'directory' and you could call it and ask the pharmacist? That way you go straight to the source.
