The problem with many lists normally comes down to age. if you start a pc top 10 of all time , how many people are going to have even been around playing on pcs going back pre half life 1 era ? I got started on a Pentium 2 233 , so that puts me as far back as 1997.

Got started on a DX4-100 as my main PC and had been using them for a lot longer before I finally managed to buy one.

I can probably go back a little bit further than you. My list changes all the time and it's subjective to how I feel. If I'm feeling nostalgic then I'd put in Doom, etc. if it was all formats then my list would be mainly C64 and Amiga games.

Agreed. My first fps was Wolfenstein 3D back in 92! And what does determine a great game - how much fun it is now, the impact it had at the time, what it brought to the genre? All of the above? One thing's for sure - if you missed out on PC fps, especially multiplayer, in the 90s and early 2000s, you missed out on the golden age of the PC fps and arguably the golden age of PC gaming fullstop. This isn't simply nostalgia speaking - what we have today sucks in every possible way bar graphics in comparison. Quake, Action Quake, Jail Break, Unreal, UT, HL, CS, DoD, RTCW, ET, SoF2, TF, TFC - it just goes on and on. So many diverse and great shooters built around a mouse and keyboard that thrived on fast, fluid gameplay and user made content. It honestly pains me at how utterly, utterly ****e the PC fps scene is these days!

I totally agree, a great time for multiplayer gaming. The original TF2 and DOD circa 1999/2000 were amazing. The original DOD, with its Saving Private Ryan sounds and non PC propaganda really set the scene. The ludicrous beach landing map - You spawn and get mowed down by an MG42, respawn die again! Finely after 50 attempts when you finely make it to the axis trench you get blown up by a friendly grenade... :D

First for me was ZX80 (wish I still had it must be worth a mint) and Invaders but my first PC was DX2-66 CPU and Zork I think. (I went ZX80 > ZX81 ?> Vic 20 > CBM 64 > Amiga > PC)
Thing is it doesnt matter how long you have been gaming on a PC you can still play any game from any year.
No list is going to suit everyone but the one here based on top 10 would be interesting and better than the PC Gippy's one.

Will have to think about a top ten.

(just had a quick look on the bay and they are going for £500! and oh wow you can buy a replica ZX80 in KIT form for £90!)
