Alternatives to Backup exec

What other decent backup programs are there apart from Symantec backup exec?

I'd recommed CA's Arcserve Backup. The company I used to work for used it on more than 50 servers.

Don't let the fact it's a CA product put you off - they just acquired the software from BrightStor.

I haven't come across many alternatives to Backup Exec but if you want something simpler and more reliable then have a look at Ultrabac.

Commvault is suppose to be the best but it's aimed at the enterprise level

We used to use ArcServe

, then Veritas NetBackup and now we're using CommVault QiNetix 6.1. Apart from being a major pain in the *** to setup and having a very steep learning curve, it's an amazing product. Well worth the gazillions of pounds we've spent on it.

This doesn't really help the OP but I thought I'd reply since someone mentioned Commvault

I'm told CommVault is pretty decent. I use BE myself and it's pretty solid.

Since there are likeminded types in this thread.. what is Dell's *please buy me* Yosemite like?
I've never used it or specced it when buying but have always been curious about it, I'd take a guess that it's awful...
I've been tempted to try Acronis Echo, prices were comparable to Backupexec iirc last time I bought a server, anyone used it?

We use Backup Exec used to use Arcserve, but not sure if it's since Symantec bought it started to be a bit buggy, also we use SBS and need to set two jobs, for data and another for sql and exchange a right pain, one night it will be OK then it will fail the next,

I'd be interested in other options

a proper one job solution that works,

we use BE atm and i hate it! terrible bit of software. only topped by symantec's nightmareish support.
getting commvault soon tho! cant wait!

I'm a PC Pro subscriber and I find their reviews aren't very thorough. I've bought software/hardware in the past when it was A listed and ended up being disappointed.

I had the choice of going with Arcserve/Backup Exec 4 months ago but decided against either product because I didn't want to tackle backup issues every week. In the end we went with a product called Asigra Televaulting. It's expensive but since I've setup my backups I've not had a single problem.
