is this very illegal?

If someone from a much larger website than mine, offered me a database of email addresses that have used the large website.

In order to help my small website.

Perhaps for a small fee.

As a very naive person, could i just say "ok" and never question it?

So if someone offers me something, it's up to me to check that the person offering it to me is allowed to?

Yeah, i do agree. Always got the feeling this could boost my website by a few years, but like you said, always a bit dodgy.
And i think it's more a case of, this person might not be the owner of the site. Might just be a web technician.

Best play it safe!

hmmm
maybe i could go back to the site in question and tell them they have a leak for some bonus points........

ah, turns out the "large" website doesn't know their data is being offered for sale!

steering clear

Presumably you have an affiliation with the 'large' website and some sort of proof that someone from that website has offered you some email addresses for sale so why don't you contact them with that evidence instead of propagating rumours?

What are you on about, propagating rumours?

No, absolutely no affiliation with the "large" website

Do you not even have a user account with the website in question?

nope, it's in the same market as one of mine though - i'm just wondering now if I should tell them that one of their employees is selling their customer details!
