Is 1 Day at Alton Towers enough or is 2 required to get the best out of it?

Also, I can find a cheap hotel room at Manchester Airport (£10pn) but it claims the 35mile drive would take 1hr 20mins? For 35miles? Isn't it just down the M6?

Depends when you go, i.e. if you go during school summer holidays then it's going to be rammed. But, if you were to go mid week outside of school holidays and get there nice and early when it opens then 1 day is fine.

The drive from Alton Towers back to the motorway takes a while.

The roads are not that quick.

Get there for when it opens and run to the most popular rides.

More then enough time to get on everything that way.

Would be August but during the week so I'm guessing it would be relatively busy?

Not just relatively, completely rammed full of screaming children and their pets, the queues could be fairly bad. Much better to go off peak.

I used to work there. 1 Day is enough:)

If you are traveling far I would say stay in the hotel as there is enough for 2 days but 1 is suffice.

Alton is a small village full of twisty roads.....in the summer it is a NIGHTMARE at 9-10am and 30-90mins after rides close.

No idea how you can spend two days at AT, its not even that big! One day is more than enough, remember you won't want to ride everything anyways, its backroads most of the way to AT so it can be slow going though buxton etc.

When I went we only had time to go on Nemesis, Rita, Oblivion, Air and that crappy Hex thing. Why does it close so early?

No idea can't remember the close times.

Last time we went mid week (no school holidays or anything and the place was almost empty) so time your trip correctly and you can walk on most rides :)

No real point standing in line for the rides at AT, one or two are alright but thats it.

Went today and was very busy, an hour plus for just about every ride.

Get a fast track thing even if its only for the main rides, we didn't but imo it would have been well worth the money we didn't get to do everything as we just ran out of time.

Depends when you go.

First time I went me and my friend only had time to go on, Oblivion, Air, Nemsis n Duel, that was during easter hols though. It was crazyyy busy though, people were having to park on the grass and everything LOL.

Second time we went, first week back after easter hols, we went on the big things (Oblivion, Air, Rita, Nemisis) twice, also went on duel, the pirate ship, the ship that goes upside down, spinball whizzer, charlie and chocolate factory, nutty squirrel ride, mutiny bay ride, we went on the long flume 6 times and riip saw like 4 times, there was basically no one there and no queues for everyting it was awesome. :D :D :D

One day, get the queue jump and head back to your favourite ride right before closing (half 5 to six ish they're empty and you can get 4/5 goes on one or 2 each on 2)

Don't bother with two days, just get the queue jumper - that's where most of the time is spent.

Take a map! It's a bloody awkward place to find and yes, it's a fair distance from the M6 - it's not that many miles, but they're basically country roads for a lot of it. Don't forget to stop off at the OcUK shop if you're out in that direction too :-)

I work there, in August it will be open till 7pm so 1 day should definitely suffice!
It is all about how you move around the park, as suggested, start at the back and work forwards, although, typically it quietens down after 5pm as that's when all the coach loads of kids start to go home etc.
As for hotels, i would say Manchester is probably too far to travel, maybe check out the travel inn / lodge in Uttoxeter as that's only 15minutes away max.
If you want to know anymore just ask.
Oh, and as for going back the next day, unless you've already got a good offer, you can buy a Towers 2 ticket while you're there for £9 to return the next day!
