You have only been driving a year. At some point you are going to come round a corner and there will be something you need to change direction for. At this point, you are going to come VERY unstuck.

Get out of the habit while you still have limbs.

No need for the insulting tone which is verging on being an attack. Despite his actions being a bit silly. :)

I have to say I'm a bit shocked that that is how you're taking corners. Not having any power on the wheels and coasting through/round corners is a very bad idea. Get out of the habit of doing it now. It is so much better to have a constant driving force going round the corner - with no power on the wheels as you turn the wheels they aren't going to have any power on them helping you turn in and round the corner - which is what is supposed to happen. Here you're relying on the grip of the tyres and aren't using getting any power down to grip and pull you round it. Furthermore braking round a corner isn't really all that adviseable certainly if you haven't got the skill to back up that action. Lastly, should your foot slip off the clutch as you're going round a corner it could completely upset the balance of the car.

Read the thread!

By luck rather than judgement mate. Your heading in the right direction to do all three of those things which is why I'm biting your proverbial head off!

You are reducing your ability to control your car, I appreciate you seem blissfully unaware of this!

Edit, my spelling is crap I'm fully aware of this. :o

Because by the time the corner is complete I need to be in second to move off.

Rubbish. If it's "screaming in 2nd" as you put it when you go round a corner with the clutch engaged then why would moving off once you've negotiated the corner be a problem for third?

As I said - don't drive like that near me.

Not necessarily. Again, judge the speed of the corner appropriately

Some corners can easily be taken at 20/25 mph at which point you should be in third anyway

Silly comment. How long have you been driving? You say only a year? Hell, plenty of people drive for a year without any problems. Just because you haven't had an accident in a year doesn't make you a good driver

Your not in full control of your car if your riding the clutch like that, your also damaging the clutch. Try to stop it and drive the way your driving instructor showed you!

Yeah I'll have a think about how I drive and see what I can do to change it. At least one sensible reply from someone NOT a wannabe keyboard warrior!

Er you coast round corners and sometimes brake mid-corner? Try having some extra tuition mate, seriously.

There have been numerous sensible replies in this thread.

You have displayed you have the capability to operate a car at the most basic standard once so you have no excuse for not doing it again (regularly).

Have a read of the thread I linked to.

You do that.

No warrior here mate, just a professional driver that can assure you the roads would be a lot safer if people like you could drive in the first place.

Its not about going round corners as fast as you can, its all about safety & control, I'd hate to be coming the other way round a bend one day when you drift into the path of my 44tonner, I'd probably either kill you or, kill some other soul as I swerve to avoid you.
Its not a race, alas, people often forget this when out driving.

Think ahead mate, before you end up as yet another young, inexperienced, DEAD driver!

A lot of you are. There seems to be just the odd person on their period round here!

Possibily because they've been in an accident (or witnessed one) that shouldn't have happened if one of the driver's were driving correctly, and safely. They're acting this way because they don't want someone else to be on the receiving end of the front of your car when it careers onto the wrong side of the road mid-corner ;)

There's some sound advice in this thread, take heed and try to make yourself a better, safer driver ;)
