After years of dreaming i finally bought an Elise but somdays its more stress to drive than fun because of other road users.

If you own i similar car you should appreciate that its

Fun to blast off at traffic lights,
Going round corners with "slow" signs while accellerating
Taking racing lines even at 30 mph
Making full use of those "national speed limit ahead" signs

However i dont want to

Speed too much, or be technically dangerous
Harrass other road users
Race morons

However EVERY time i take the thing out every body has to prove that their a ****. Even seen a micra attempt a blind overtake at about 70mph in a 40 zone.! Im just trying to enjoy driving but its hard work keeping calm!

Is this just me or anybody else find it infuriating to drive sensibly on public roads with a high proformance car? Or by driving with a slightly more fun, yet safe stlye'e are we just annoying the hell out of other road users?

I get exactly the same treatment when driving the RX8. Every single boy racer withing 10 miles seems to know that i'm in it, and instantly wants a race. Gets annoying after a while, though you can have some fun with them.

Thanks Creature! Im really glad to hear that im not the only one. Minds more at rest now

Its amazing how many micra drivers dont realise how fast an elise is in a race:p

I used to drive a 1.3 civic for 7 years, so ive never once experienced anything like the agro i get from driving the elise. Its phenominal the amount of unwanted attention you get.

Cool how most with a similar car really dont bother each other,

I had 2 Bentlys who were driving in formation try to race me the other day on the Caterham bypass. Was even until they got to the corners LOL :p

Nope its not just you, i get people driving right up my bum all the time egging me on along with all the stuff above!

Actually reminds me of just last night :p was pretty funny. My missus was driving us home from my brothers coz I had a few drinkies. Had some Megane steam up behind us and then sits on the bumper while she is sticking solidly to 30mph all the way (the speed limit). After 10 - 15min a dangerous cornering over taking manoeuver is performed (predictibly  )

Some kind of inferiority complex is all it is. Desperatly trying to prove they not as crap as they look :p

Yea its usually some silly 18 year old in a corsa or saxo, they just don't know how to do 30mph, but i have my fun when i've made them sit a 25 / 30 then vanish into the distance when the national speed limit comes up :)

Great fun isn't it

Must just be you :p

I very rarely have people try to race me and when they do I just carry on driving at my normal pace and this is more than enough to make them dissapear (I'm not going to say in what direction ;) )

Well done for living the dream and if you haven't already head over to http://seloc.org for a load of information. Again if you haven't done already look into driver training. http://www.carlimits.com/ run by Andy Walsh is excellent

Now my car isnt fast at all it has 90 bhp but because it looks remotely sporty, with the spolier and its a coupe i get people in corsa's, micra's on my tail trying to make me go faster, sure i could and i'd probably beat them. It's also amazing when i see actual hot-hatches wanting to do the traffic light grand prix they think my car has power to match there when it hasn't. Looks can be decieving, i never got this in my R5.

Thanks for your replies,
Yes Driver training i really should seriously consider! im finding it a bit more of a handfull than the old faithfull civic. I remember driving it home, falling out the door sweating and wobbling inside the house to get some strong whisky before spending the rest of the day looking at it through the window shaking.

I do all of the above in my 2 ton 7 Series ! :o

Agreed though, peeps do "try it on"

With me, I reckon they think along the lines of "Black 7 Series , 18inch wheels etc" he's well up for it! They obviously don't spot the 728 badge

I ,generally, ignore the Muppets and just enjoy my drive. :)

Nobody tries to race me. Nobody can catch me unless they have more power or are the police and generally nobody thinks its funny to race at 90 through a 30 :p *

* This isn't true, just playing up to the BMW stereotype

Yep, got grief all the time in the Anglia even though mine was severely faster than most other stuff on the road. I do sometimes think I might not put the racing spots back on the doors. Meh, who am I trying to kid :D

I am currently saving away, I think I'll end up with an Elise.

There was a thread on here the other day by another member with an Elise who keeps getting tailgated.

That would really annoy me. However, I am currently doing an IAM course.

On the surface it seems like "how to drive like a grandad" course. Primarily it is. However, some of the stuff they teach you and the habits they get you into have helped me to keep my cool and simply pull over to allow muppets to past me.

I still get the urge to drop a gear and blast the little chavvy Corsa which is tailgating me or similar away. And I will admit that I still do it, however I can only think of once in the past 2 months.

I now just pull over.

Like I said in the thread the other day. If I had a nice car which could accelerate well I don't know how I would behave. Hopefully I can keep the habit of driving IAM-style when neccesary and just allow the chavs to pass.

I was overtaking on the outside lane of a motorway the other day at a shade over 70 (overtaking 2 overtaking trucks) with an S class stuck to my bumper, as soon as i had got my exhaust an inch from the trucks and could pull back in he starts flashing me and indicating he wants to pass.

dropped it inth 3rd and just let it hit the redline, i then pulled back into the slow lane and returned to cruising speed.

he gave me the finger as he tore past me (after about 10 seconds or so) doing silly speeds

Good choice :)

Your behaviour will change if you own an Elise though. Because they're just so much fun in the corners you'll soon be doing stuff like this ;)

I will hold you to your offer by the way, maybe when the weather is a little better?

Looking at it from the other side for a second:

To be fair tho when I come to somewhere I know you can *ahem* say race I do like performance cars to put a bit of welly down. I came up behind a "Poor mans porsche" the other day (regular boxster) and he simply refused to race me :(
