Just back from Kwik-Fit after the third test. Failed on emissions test, got it sorted and took it back and they said it passed so then he goes away to do the paper work. Says your 10 days is up for the free re-test. Have to do a complete new test. All old faults fixed at this stage, but now they say the front (d / bush / marked) Anti-roll bar rubber mounting deteriorated resulting in excessive movement bot sides.
Front suspension has excessive movement at a wishbone pin or bush, both sides. How comes they find these new faults all of a sudden and not before. I ran around for days sorting all the problems out and now this!!!!!

They fixed this last year, ie front Anti-roll bar rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement, both sides.
Nearside front Anti-roll bar linkage rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement. I paid over £400 to do this, last year.
My invoice from last year:

QTA3078 Bora 2.0 99- FS £83.20 X 2 £166
SPEBSH-ROLL BAR BUSH £24 X 2 £48
SKIT119 ANTI ROLL BAR LINK £37 X 2 £74
GEOALIGN CHECK AND FRONT ADJ £45
GEORETOE REAR TOE ADJUST £20
GEORCAMB REAR CAMBER ADJUST £20

£405.

Have they pulled a fast one on me and taken me for another mug. What can I do, I have 10 days to sort it. I've paid them for 2 M.O.T's now and it should have been sorted earlier before the full new test because all faults are fixed.

A few years back took the car for an M.O.T test to Kwit Fit it pass with some advisories something like bush deteriorated like that had no work done on it. A year later same Kwit Fit pass again and no advisory, sometime's they try to get money out off you. Never going back to Kwit Fit again

Go elsewhere.

Guy in work took his car to a local tyre place which wasn't kwik-fit but they've developed a rep for being a bit dodgy.

Gave him a couple of hundred quid bill for brake lines. Had the lines check by a mech who said they were find and he went elsewhere for MOT and car passed no problem.

Some of these places just try it on - usually tyre & exhaust type places trying to make up a few quid.

I'm fuming as they quoted £450 for the work. Do they just make these figures up!!

What parts do I need to replace, as I'm confused by their descriptions.

Front (d / bush / marked) Anti-roll bar rubber mounting X 2.
Front suspension has excessive movement at a wishbone pin or bush, X 2.

Its often the same with these chains, i had a terrible experience with Halfords Autocentre in Newbury, they failed a car which was in immaculate mechanical condition on one of the few jobs which they were able to complete on what was a complex car. To further back up how ridiculous the fail was, the very part which they suggested needed replacing had been replaced recently by a Mercedes main agent.

I took it elsewhere and it obviously passed without as much as an advisory. I considered a complaint to VOSA but in the end after advice i decided that it wasnt worth the effort over a £25 MOT fee and half a day of wasted time.

I really wish people would put the complaint in, rather than go 'oh well, only cost me 25 quid, what's the point?'. This is why outfits get to stay in business while ripping people off! :p

What car is it?

Some cars will have bushes that turn to cheese in certain areas within a year.

The Yaris is such a car, front droplinks are terrible. Poly aftermarket = fixed

the fact they failed to raise an issue on the first test and what 10 days later find umpteen faults suggest that one of the testers isn't up to scratch.

call to vosa with both test papers if you have them.

either the first tester is incompetent or the second one is at it

They are a huge chain, they would have refuted until they were blue in the face and brought a VOSA investigation and the honest garage into it. It wouldnt have been worth anyones while. Sometimes defending principles is not worth it, and you have just move on :(

the OP above is slightly different, both tests carried out by Kwikfit.

certainly calls at least one of their testers competencies into question

even worse if it happened to be the same tester

Its a VW Bora T-reg 1999 petrol 1.6

It was 2 different testers at Kwik-Fit. The second tester said I passed the emmissions test.
He did'nt find anything wrong with the anti-roll bars or bushes until the 2nd full test was done after the 10 day cooling off period. He did the 2nd re-test and said only the emissions
had failed the test.
