Am I Being Conned By Kwik-Fit

Kwik-Fit ALWAYS try it on

I took my car to the local one ages ago to get a tyre changed (that I bought from Camskill.co.uk) and was informed that I "need new brake discs and pads all round coz they're knackered m8"

Funny, because I'd changed the discs and pads myself for brand new items not two weeks before

:/

(Kwik Fit are never, ever the right chaps for the job..).... Though tbh chap (I'd feel bad for if I were to not say this..), Kwik Fit are the last people you should be taking your car to. They're rather unreliable

Take it somewhere else dude.

If you stick with them, you deserve no less than what you'll end up with..

Last time I went to KwikFit for an oil change I was informed that I had to replace all four of my tyres.

There was nothing wrong with the tyres as I had checked them beforehand.

I asked the mechanic to give me a printed invoice of how much it would cost to have the tyres replaced plus a full service and I would more than likely pop in next week to get the work done.

Anyway to cut a long story short invoice went straight in the bin when I got home.

Should have taken the invoice scanned it in with pictures of your tyres and made a blog!

However saying that, you must remember that mechanics are trained to keep in mind they won't see the car for 12 months or potentially 10,000 miles. This is why when there is 3mm left on tyres they will still write it up.

So you got stung for £405 last year at the same KwikFit, no alarm bells rang so you have returned 1yr later and are surprised when they are trying the same tactics again... really?

A while ago Kwik-Fit had such a bad name that the whole chain was given ONE licence to do MoTs, as I recall, with the idea that if ONE of their outlets messed up, they would lose the licence for all outlets.
Is that still the case?

I Called KwikFit and asked that they attempt to install an exhaust i have bought.

they said ok and to come down thursday afternoon.

I get there and they tell me that they cant do it as their manager is in and he wont allow that kind of thing.

So THANKS KWIKFIT FOR WASTEING MY TIME.

Good thing the local Volvo Dealer tried to fit it and found it was too long and didn't charge me for their time :) (then again they have the wifes car booked in for a Cambelt)

I believe so as that's why I used to use them, and recommend them ONLY for MOT...not any longer, got properly burned on the last MOT. The manager guy got really aggressive when I questioned his practices also..

You can read the whole sorry story here:

Needless to say, I blame myself for 'dancing with the devil' and my position now is a resolute NEVER EVER USE KWIK FIT. FOR ANYTHING.

Kwik fit tried this on with my mother a couple months ago, she booked it in for a MOT and service, they rang her to say it needs a few repairs so she says ok just do them, for an extra £150ish.
So when my pops went to collect it, they took one look at him and said they didn't need to do the repairs in the end and so he just paid for the service.
Her car is less than 5 years old and only has 15k miles on it.
They were basically preying on a vulnerable woman who knows nothing about cars.

I took my car for a free health check at Formula 1, they gave me a sheet of 15 advisories I need for an MOT totalling £500, I took the car to WeOnlyMOT and it passed with 0 advisories.

Just shows they are all greedy ***** really.

Depends though doesn't it I mean my last xar would pass an mot but the anti roll bar bushes were all cracked and squished. I mean sure it didn't kill me and I poly bushed the car anyway, but by the letter of the law shoukd that at least be an advisory?

I really don't know how they have got away with this kind of thing for so many years without being investigated and shamed. Mot's seem to be just another tool to take people on.

Many years ago a back box snapped on my Nissan right outside a branch. Being desperate I rolled it in and asked them to change it. They quoted me about £90 so i went for it. Then when on the ramps the guy wanders in claiming it needs a whole new system. I ask him to show me but he refuses on health and safety grounds.

In the end I just purchase the box and a mate comes up with some tools and we change it on the roadside. Ten minute job for £50 and the car passes with no advisories three weeks later.

My girlfriend gets a puncture outside another branch. She takes it in for a tyre which they charge silly money which is bad enough. Why changing it they say the front brakes are shot and need changing. They even go as far as saying the car is dangerous to drive. My girlfriend produces a receipt for the Mintex Discs and EBC pads I fitted a couple of months earlier to some very red faces. It is amazing what girls keep in their handbags lol.

I went in to Kwik-Fit to get a puncture fixed a while back. After leaving me waiting for about 15 minutes while they chatted in the office and continually saying "be with you in a minute mate" the guy on reception came out and said, and I quote "can't do it now mate cos the lads wonna go for their lunch innit, come back in a few hours". Then quoted me about 3 times the price of the independent tyre place down the road so I went elsewhere and won't bother going there again.

Anyway my advice is go somewhere else.

I have to use them for my tyres as thats the only approved place for our company cars. The nonsense that they spout to unsuspecting customers is scary, they prey on the vunerable imo and thats just not on.

I went to QF for MOT last year after passing with flying colours they advised i needed a new cambelt costing 300 quid due to the mileage , thankfully i didnt say yes straight away and on checking the service manual which they had stamped found the work had been done the year before ..

Needless to say i will never be returning.
