Basically, I have all new parts waiting to be fitted into my case, but I really cant be bothered going through all the hassle of a new Windows (XP32 SP2) install.

Whats the worst that could happen if I try to load up windows from my old install with the new mobo, ram, etc. Basically, I have had this install for about 2 years now and I really don't want to have to re-install all the programs, redo reg tweaks, and settings and stuff.

Obviously I will eventually, but I'm working all the time now and am just feeling lazy. Thoughts? Ideas? Advice? etc

it won't work, If it does it will badly, There are diffrent drivers, Just format it will be good in the end!

Uninstall ALL the drivers you can, power down. Build up new rig. and maybe just maybe you'll get into windows. If you do, install new drivers and there ya go. However it wont be as fast as it could be and you might find some very stange errors here and there. so i wouldnt leave it more than a few days.

Yeah obviously this isn't intended as a permanent rig, just a temporary solution as I don't want to go through all the hassle right now (working a lot lately, cba with the stress). Sounds like I'd be spending just as much time messing about with driver issues trying to make it work anyway so it looks like I'll just bite the bullet.

Ta all the same, it's pretty much as I thought.

You can always clone the drive onto the new HDD.

Something like Norton Ghost will do the job although there are a lot of other freeware utilities you can use.

That way, you get a perfect clone of XP without the worry of having to do a fresh install when the stress levels drop ;)
