Evening all,

Just wanting to check I will be doing the network correct.

Main BT Socket in lounge downstairs
.

Router connects to BT Socket

Smart TV connects to gigabyte switch

Gigabyte Switch connect to RJ45 socket in lounge

Cat 6 cable routed outside up the side of the house (99% out of view) into loft.

Cable connects to another gigabyte switch which is mounted on a wall in the loft.

Cables routed into main bedroom and study and terminated to an RJ45 socket in each room.

Smart TV in bedroom is connected by CAT6 to the wall socket.

In the study CAT6 cable is used to connect another switch. Main PC/Server, and possibly laptops (may extend the wifi) connects via CAT6 cable to the switch.

I will use an 8 port switch on each so plenty of scope. Main reason will be to use Plex to steam HD films & TV shows and obviously internet throughout.

I may add another smart TV in the kitchen, depending on location a cable will be routed on the outside of the house down the same side and either connect to the lounge or loft switch.

Do I need to use outdoor cable or will standard be ok? The wall is pretty well protected as it is between me and next door so wont be effected by much weather or sun.

Thanks

No problem using the external grade, is this ok to use internally is it just a matter of it being a bit less flexible?

I assume the setup I have listed above will suffice?

You seem to be missing a patch panel? Use solid core cat6 for the runs from the patch panel to the sockets in each room. This is my switch and patch panel in my cupboard at home to illustrate what I mean.

My tips would be to put in more sockets than you think you will need as even a quad socket behind my tv/hifi is only just enough. Run all cables in conduit so you can easily replace/upgrade it. Don't cut the cable exactly to length, leave service loops/extra bits of cable in lofts and under floors, this will make wiring up easier as you will have a bit of slack to play with. I would also think every bit of cable routing through carefully as after doing one or two of mine I ended up moving them to a better/more logical route afterwards.
