Would the above product plug into my samsung tv and play files that i have on an hard drive drive? in full 1080? or is there a catch

No, it says it only supports a maximum video resolution of 720x576. It doesn't even support .wmv and .mp4 which are two of the most common container formats.

The cheapest one to look for is the - Cyclone Micro v2 Media Player - costs about £30 and will do what you want.

Also Should look at the Patriot PCMPBO25 Box Office Multimedia Player it should play everything and you can put a hard drive into it or hook it upto your network.

Alternativly have a look at AC Ryan players
