Am I crazy? BMW 840.

Love the 8 series. I think its a fairly rare colour for an 840 too? I remeber seeing a few older 850s in that shade but not an 840.

I say, have it transported to a specialist & spend £300 on a thorough check over.

Never know, it might Sail through an MOT and will be immediately much more valuable as a result.

Selling it as it is you will take a big bath on the value (and then some if to some youtuber)...so I'm interested obviously:D

There was also a Wheeler Dealers episode where they restored an 8 series, if you're interested.
I have seen that interest and it did give me some energy towards the project but that wained quite quickly.

It needs 4 tyres because they are all cracked for a start and the only mechanical thing I know for sure needs sorting is the windscreen washer mechanism. No sailing though an MOT at the moment.

Perfect excuse to get it on a more original set of (smaller) wheels.

That vintage of 8 series looks fantastic and we'll never see those sleek front ends with pop-up headlights ever again because apparently its important that pedestrians who get run over at night don't instantly lose a limb or two.

I'd certainly be keeping it but then again, I keep an old MX5 in the garage that never gets used.

Personally. as it's an 840i I'd get rid. It's doubtful that they are going to become a crazy valuable classic for a very long time yet. Now, if it was an M850csi then we'd be having a totally different conversation.

Really annoyingly we had the original wheels they were in the corner of the garage where the car was originally kept. Somehow the decision was made when a house move was done and the car came to us that the wheels would be sold. Such a frustrating point as they were mint too. There is a similar one (albeit in running) on Autotrader https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-de...de=S751FN&year-from=1995&year-to=1995&fromsra

I'm guessing our model isn't going to be worth that sort of money, looking at £10k, I'm not sure.

It really depends on the condition, mileage (with some caveats), and history. There was one in the same colour, in running condition with a few months' MOT, at an auction I was watching recently – and that went for £5,600 or so, after fees. Pretty tidy, too, and had 113k on the clock.

That's also been advertised since June, so it would seem the consensus from potential buyers is that £15,495 is probably a bit strong for that car.

This strikes a nerve as I had an old boss who put me in his will to receive a nice 840. It had sentimental value as he'd been really supportive of me for years and it had the sister plate to my custom plate also. Sadly he sold it as he's immobile now. I would've loved the plate at least.

Beautiful car!

If you have the energy i'd think it'd be worth sorting the wipers and take it for an MOT to see what the state is, if even if the tyres are old and cracked you'll probably just get an advisory for them. It'd be a lot easier to move on with an MOT or at even an MOT fail with a known list of things that need sorting rather than being a complete gamble for someone.
