I am rubbish with software, and would like any help if I've missed anything or any tips.

i5 3570k, ga-z77-d3h, gtx 970

Just finished a fresh install of Win7 and so far:
- downloaded all important updates that have trickled through (I think)
- chrome for browser
- Avast anti virus & Malwarbytes
- (i dont have a disc with drivers for mobo) so '1D5M', 'Atheros', 'Etron', 'IntetlUSB30'. Whatever they are, found on Gigabyte website for my mobo. Think they're for usb ports and ethernet, most likely wrong about that.
- Nvidia geforce exp for GPU
- MS .NET framework 4.5

And now I'm not sure what else I should install. Apart from non essential software, do you think I'm finished?

Would like a way to control case fans, but can't find anything useful from Gigabyte.

Gigabyte does have software that might allow fan control. Look for Easy Tune 6

Yuo mention most of the drivers, but you don't say if you installed the Intel chipset driver or not. If not, do it, as this will allow components like SATA and USB controllers to run correctly. Also, the Intel Management Engine is important.

Might also be worth going into the device manager (Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager) and see if there are any devices in there with exclamation marks.

Other that, anything else will depend on what you do with the PC. Things like Adobe Reader (or alternative) and 7zip are always useful to have.

Looks like I have the Intel Managment one.
Need to find a driver for the SM bus controller. the only thing outstanding in device manager.

Also, downloaded easytune, but required the GB app centre. and as soon as that was downloaded, I got a blue screen. After restoring to previous image, before that programme, was all fine again.

Just found a file online, outside of the GB driver pages. "Chipset_10.0.27_Public".
Seemed to have amended that last sm bus controller in device manager..

Thanks for the help with that.

Will just try and search for something else to use for the fans

Radec, download a programme caller Driver Booster 3.

It will show all the drivers which are either missing or have newer drivers available. It will also give you a choice to let driver booster install all the drivers for you. (make sure you have a backup if you update automatically)

This any good before I take the plunge?

Recently done a clean install of w10 and couldn't find 1 of the usb3 drivers which were not on the manufacturers website and driver booster found plus updated several other drivers.

Also tried on an old laptop with Windows 7 and again found all drivers no problem.
