Am I Going Crazy?

OMFG!!!!! This could be the game I've been waiting for.

Need to get reading, may be tempted to get coding/designing and run my own PW again if that's possible like I did with NWN! :D :D :D Bye bye, social life...

Having pre-ordered and played in the last 2 head starts this game is nothing like what they've advertised.
The head start itself is nothing more than a disguised beta test, it also stops you from getting a refund in steam as it's classed as a full game.
The previous head start weekend was just 8 days before the game was released and it was nowhere near complete, it wouldn't even save progress for a large amount of people and the dungeon master mechanic has so much missing from it.
The pausing in game for tactics? Nope. You can pause but that's about it and it's nothing like Neverwinter Nights, it's more Gauntlet with added skills.
The D&D system? Very loosely based.
Things may change but the core game will stay the same so I'd probably wait for the game to come out first and then wait for trusted reviews before you hit buy.

While it was fun in multiplayer it's nothing like what's advertised and if I could get a refund now I would.

That's a shame but I'm not sure what advertising you refer too, I've been watching the Dev live streams & played in both head start trials & I found that it certainly represented what I had seen in the streams I'd watched & I had fun with it myself, sure it's not the deepest RPG I've ever played but then I was not given the impression that it would be from the things I've seen from the Devs.
As for lots of things missing, they have already stated that some parts were held back until release for fear of spoilers ahead of release.

The advertising I'm referring to was some of the reviews which were on the front page of the website which stated the game was like Neverwinter Nights and Baldurs Gate 2. Nope. Not even a little.
I've not seen any of the streams but went by what's on the website (my mistake I know) and judging by the forums I'm not the only one.

Anyway I can understand holding some things back but the head start is supposed to be a head start for pre orders so they can begin playing the game, so yes we should have had everything available to us or at least the most updated game engine.
This was just pure beta testing with another name added to it.

ooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooOooooooooooOOOOOOOOOoooo

This one snuck under the radar didn't it?

<3 D&D. I don't anything in the CRPG realm has beaten the D&D ruleset for complexity, strategy and fun.
