Am I in any trouble?

Is the car behind you bland?

Is it following you?

If you slow down, does it also slow down, and repeat if you speed up?

Are there two people in the car?

If the answer to two or more of these questions are yes, it's the law baby.

I once had EXACTLY the same thing happen to me (almost the same speeds too) except I'd overtaken a few cars on the inside too, the plain clothes car included!

I got a wagged finger that properly **** me up, but I learnt a lesson from that experience I can assure you! I think that had I been pulled over and ticketed or ultimately banned I would have just been ****** off about it instead.

FYI, I never heard anything of it again, so I doubt you will either.

This might be totally out of date now, probably is but they use to have to clock you for 1/4 mile to secure a conviction.

That was back in the 80/90's from speed equipment fitted in car or on bike whilst moving.

I've had a similar thing happen to me fairly recently, batting from Shrewsbury back to Stoke after a shift driving an HGV,approximately 3:30am,my then 325i felt like a rocket powered rolling skate and I was driving it accordingly.

I was pulling a bigger and bigger gap on the car behind, doing a few leptons, when eventually he put his blues on!

It was a marked Police car too, I pulled over, he merely pulled along side asked " having trouble taking off Wing Commander?" And drove off!

I sat there for a minute or so afterwards thinking WTF!?! and feeling quite relieved!

Once had this happen in a far higher punishment-attracting situation and nothing came of it. I assume only blue-lighted me so he could overtake, as he wasn't managing it otherwise.

A cop sitting up your chuff forcing you to speed up to get out of his way? That's probably why you weren't booked.

Makes no sense though. If the cop was in a rush or on a job, surely he would just put his blinkers on in the first place. Not sit stuck behind someone, tailgating them and hoping they pull over.

Unless trying to creep up to something ahead. See it on those cop programs trying to catch up to a car known for drugs etc...

On the subject of old unmarked police cars, I was pulling into work the about a month ago and one of the students had been pulled over by police in an unmarked Peugeot 306!

Proper policing IMO.

A warning given, accepted and lesson learnt. All are agreeing it IS highly effective in slowing people down. Little time wasted by the cop. Many such warnings can be given quickly and easily to drive UP driving standards. Everyone wins.:)

It makes me rage hearing about police busting people for 35 in a 30 etc on some deserted country road in the middle of no-where. My old grandad got done years ago in that way and it really upset him. They even hid at the bottom of a hill where speeds creep up over 30. UTTER waste of time and resources. It can't even have been worth the police time waiting there for the puny fine. Complete waste of time and money for no benefit at all.
