Right. Ive been given the task of creating a website. I was going to do it in Dreamweaver. However i have found out PHP Nuke seems to have what i want, with polls, being able to add news etc. However i know NOTHING about PHP. Im gonna try set it up now.. But am i wasting my time with it? Would it be worth getting someone to set it up then ill contuine to edit the parts i want? Or should i stick with Dreamweaver?

It's just a portal. Everything is already setup for you. You can just go into the admin options and you'll be able to add news with a form. Nice and easy. :)

Edit: If you're set on Dreamweaver though use the code window, Design view is awful.

Exactly as already said, everything is there for you and its very easy to edit. My only gripe with PHP nuke as its one of the most popular things to get hacked into. Theres nearly always someone with their PHPNuke hacked.

Joomla is another alternative that does a simular thing. Might be worth installing a couple of scripts and see which you like best.

I tried setting it up.. But when i goto a link for the PHP Admin, it just asks if i want to download the file.. Does that mean my webspace doesnt support PHP?

Yes thats correct.

Right, ill sort some webspace out tomorrow now. Could i possibly setup my own computer just get the feel of installing it and editing it? I got a layout in my head.. and on paper. Any help is appreciated.. If anyone got sometime on MSN maybe i can talk to them? Thanks

Hey, not sure if you got sorted out or not but there is a good site where you can view info on all the content management systems/portals out there and you can view live demo versions etc etc.

Hope this is of some help.

Cheers for help guys. Had a play about with PHP Nuke and i got to say its pretty impressive. Although to get it to my needs within the time i want it.. id be struggling. So i will probaly end up paying someone to help me out ;)

As already said, don't assume phpNuke is the best there are lots out there that do the same job.

phpbb (can get front end portals for it)
myBB <--- really like this one.
Even WordPress would do what you want and is excellent in terms of customisation and ease of install.
