Am I likely to have issues adding a 2nd R9 290?

I'm currently running a Sapphire Tri-X 290 card and thinking about adding another for crossfire. As these vent into the case, is this a bad idea?

Case is HAF X - rest of spec in rig.

Just wondering if anyone is running this set up?

Temps wise you should be ok if you turn the sidefan to pull air out of the case.. but your PSU might not be enough for that set-up especially if you Overclock them further. They're ~300W each from the factory, that plus your CPU is pushing the limits.

Cheers guys.

A quick follow up question if anyone knows the answer...

The Tri-x 290 cards available on ocuk currently, run at 1000MHz core and 5200MHz mem. The version I have is something like 927MHz core (can't remember memory). I think this was due to ocuk getting the cards in with a default BIOS or some such.

Anyway, will this cause any issues with crossfire? If so, can I flash the old card with the 1000MHz BIOS, or maybe underclock the new one slightly to match?

Cheers guys.

I have one of the cards you're talking about as well, if you're worried flash the OC bios to your current card. they have 2 for a reason

Yea you can flash the bios of your slightly faster tri-x to the slower one as long as the card is not a different revision? But still it should be okay. Also you don't need to underclock the other card as crossfire will do that for you i believe.

K, well I've put the 2nd card in and set both to 1000MHz, but I don't think crossfire is working.

Two devices are shown in device manager and crossfireX is enabled in Catalyst CC.

These are two sets of stats from both cards when testing with a couple of games - it seems only one card is being used. Framerate (far right chart) is also a bit low.

Far Cry 4, ultra, 3840x2160

Any ideas?

Ah, didn't realise crossfire doesn't work with games in a window. Bioshock is looking better in fullscreen, both cards working. I suspect Far Cry 4 doesn't support crossfire.

I'll do some more testing.

No FC4 atm does work with Crossfire, Latest update we had was AMD is working with Ubisoft on either a patch to enable it or AMD to release a driver to support it.
