Am I mad for wanting an E36 M3?

The whole of the south west seems infested with last gen cars, by the looks of the sheer number of E90/2's up this way you should in theory be seeing a large influx of old E46's starting to appear? Noticed many yet? They must be going somewhere!

e92s are fast replacing last summer's e46 Coupe/Cabrios in Gerrard's Cross :D

They can often by founding hammering around town being driven by chavs and people wearing hi-vis vests...

Jesus Christ, I'm not sure what is worse, a "chav" or a "snob".

people who do manual labour don't deserve nice cars like BMW's don't you know?

at least that's what Tarquin told me at brunch this morning.

Brockington indicated the same to me during a smashing session of croquet on Sunday, small world my old chap.

Stunning cars.

I've had mine for 1.5 years and still love it every time I get in it.
Running costs? Only things that have went wrong is A/C condensor- fitted new one myself, cost around £100. The A/C controller worked intermittently, repaired by me for the cost of a 23pence capacitor for the pcb.
Other than thta, spot on car.
Vanos issue: Some cars do have noisey units but they very rarely actually fail. It doesn't matter if it has had one changed or not, some last the life of the car, some last just 30k miles, just one of those things to put to the back of your mind and enjoy the car. I change the Vanos filter every time I change the oil 3k miles.
Don't bother with an E46 Ci, slower by about 80 bhp and bigger heavier and I'm sure they have "only for nancies" traction control, E36 M3 comes in "Man Control" flavour.
Thinking of selling......
Techno Violet, with new tyres and some upgrades...

If you have wanted one for ages, always liked them and feel you can afford one then GO FOR IT! This is what got me to buy a Dolomite, if you don't get one now there is a high chance you will never get to own one.

There is plenty of time to be sensible when you're older.

Looks like the decision has been made for you :p and i have to agree with everyone if you've always aspired to owning an M3 do it and enjoy it, worry about the consequences if any later.

Well I should be driving one this weekend, If I decide that its a car I could live with then I guess I have to find a buyer for the leon (after getting a few small jobs done to it)!

Have looked into getting one of these, but was stumped on the insurance. £2.5k fully comp, one no fault accident, 3 points (sp30) a few years ago, 5 years no claims :( For that sort of money I could insure a TVR Chimaera. Apparently, these cars are very popular with younger drivers who tend to write them off. Good luck, and as Fox said, get a minter in estoril blue

Ive found M3 insurance to be quite high too, i am suprised that you (paradigm)can insure one for the same as the LCR to be honest.

Definately something to double and treble check before you drive one and decide you need one!

Best quote was Nationwide, 6 points declared, 5 years no claims, £979.

Out of curiosity have u lost much in terms of depreciation compared to what u brought the LCR for a year ago?

No, because I got an exceptional deal when I bought mine, I'll have probably lost about £500.

Get the M3 test drive & then try the E46 ci sport too & take it from there.

That I shall be doing. Preferably back to back.
