am i mad ?

good sub that, i got 2 x 12inch RE SEv1 subs in a 4.8cubic foot box ported to 35hz running of a RE35.1D amplifier. very good sound, had that setup now since 2003 and still have it.

although the XXX is a damn good sub i can;t help but say that in todays world there are other subs out there that can come close to the XXX but for a far lower price.

e.g 2 of those pioneer 3004spl subs would cost you 200quid inc vat for the pair of them and they would end up going juast as loud as the single 15 and depending on enclosure they would go just as low.

these days if i had to buy car audio all over again i would not spend a lot of money on subs and amps and try to keep it as cheapo as possible without having to resort to crappy quality stuff. reason is for security reasons etc.
with a 650quid sub in the boot with amps etc are you gonna get to sleep easily at night or are you gonna be worried about the car?

although my car is always locked up in a secure compound overnight with online security camera access where i can even keep an eye on it at home, i still have to be careful where i park even though i have a cat 1 alarm on it with secondary audio cover too.

650 quid on a single sub i would say is a no no unless you want to make a show car or go to competitions etc.

but saying that the XXX is a dam good sub and really has to be heard to be believed. its quality is amazing.

If you have £1750 spare to spend on toys and those are the toys you want, go for it. Sounds silly to me, but why should I care? The money won't be coming out of my bank account.

What car are these going into?

my first thought....

second was, what are they going to be running with? I.E what other amp do you have and what comps are they running?

have you got decent sound proofing in your car?

A 15" is gonna sound awful unless you're not after puncy sound and just want to shatter your teeth.

Its not about the cost of the sub. You can make two cheap 8" woofers embrarass the bigger more expensive hardware just by building the ideal enclosure.

I hope you've got some decent sound deadening because that 15" will probably loosen every interior panel turning your car into a giant rattle over time.

Depends ont he kind of music you listen to, 15" generally are suited to low slow bass notes, hiphop etc.

Personally i wouldnt spend that kind of money, as it would only get knicked (painfull past experiences)

Tbh.now that im older, i prefer SQ so i would rather spend good money on a decent set of components and a nice amp to power them, they have the advantage of being hidden away so they are out of sight from the local scallies.

Big bass is pointless as you cant listen to it loud without looking a tit in most places :(

What does it matter? its not as if it will only be tied to that one car.

It matters becuase it would be somewhat amusing if he spends £1750 on loud stereo equipment and then fits it into a £400 Corsa when he could have spent the money on a nice car.

Oh yes. It matters. Thats why this is a motors forum. Not Hi Fi and Audio.

Yeah but if he spent all that wonga on a car he'd have no cash for ICE, this why people mod cars, they cant afford what they want straight away.

Chances are the fella that drives a £400 corsa wont be buying 1750 worth of ICE, more the halfords big bass special.

if you know of the XXX then i assume you know of talkaudio.co.uk, im registered on there and thats where i found out about the resonant engineering brand of subs and get all my ice info from.

people generally say that 15 inch subs are good for only deep bass and not for punch but iv heard 2 of the old skool round 15incher solobarics in sealed boxes and they slammed hard with 700rms going into each one.
its all to do with the enclosure used, iv seen videos of 2 x 6.5inch subs that make people think they were 2 15inch subs, think the subs were in whats called a transmission line box.

xxx from what iv read are very versitile subs, sound good in both ported and sealed, although more efficiency is gained when going ported.

Any self respecting ice enthusiast knows about RE.I ran 4 RE8's for a while, nice punchy sub for its size,i was amazed at how much power it would take

That said, whilst they do go low and hard, they still arent an optimal sub for the kind of music i listen to, i have always found 12's to be ideal for all sorts of music tbh, best of both worlds.

I have the 12" pioneer 3000 watt jobby with the Alpine MRD-M605 amp i think? the amps tiny and it does the job really well.

A friend of mine has 2 of the same amps of me and the old 1800watt version of my sub (2 of them), but has the naffest head unit ever and hence it sounds terrible!

If I were you I'd of gone for a 12" due to the faster respone of a smaller cone, but you'll get mega SPL with a 15" hope your happy with it and make sure you get some pics up! :)
