Just browsing Auto Trader and I see quite a few of what I class as luxury cars at silly prices. For example:

Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 CDI
20000 Miles on the clock
£6600

Audi A4 2.0 TDI 136 S Line
8600 Miles
£5000

Mercedes-Benz E Class E250 CDI
36500 Miles
£5000

Mercedes-Benz C Class C220 CDI
6800 Miles
£6000

From the images on each listings the cars look lovely, I would link them but they just direct to the search page and not the actual listing. All four are less than 5 miles away from me and are all Private Sellers. Is this common, a scam or something else ? I'm not clued up on cars but thought that this is the place to ask.

Is this common on Auto Trader ?

I don't think they are but it wouldn't surprise me if they use numerous different contact details.

If you want to have a look, use the post code S3 8WA (not my post code), 20 mile radius, £4000 to £8000 and you should find them.

Yeah, that's the first one I saw, what's the deal then ? Do they mug you when you go to view it or something ?

They will probably spin you a story that they live abroad and need to be sure you have the funds available before they come over, then ask you to transfer £x,000 to yourself by western union (reassuring you that it's safe and not a scam as you're sending the money to yourself) then ask for a picture of the receipt from western union which will have the code on it that can be used to collect the money.

I've come across this type of scam a couple of times when buying/selling cars and looking for flats to rent etc and went along with obvious scammers to try and understand what they were doing for future reference.
 
LOL! You actually thought anyone is insane enough to be selling their legit car (The merc in the pic) for such a silly price? :p

Their trick is they ask you to send a decent size deposit (£1-2k) and they will hold the car for you (that doesn't exist) until you come to view it. If they think you are even more of a mug they will ask for the full price before viewing to make sure it is saved for you. Of course, once you have sent the money you will not hear from this person ever again.

If it looks/sounds too good to be true... 99.9% of the time, it normally is.

As soon as I saw the listing something said dodgy to me, but I thought I would just ask to see if this is a common thing on auto trader.
 
Also seems as if the image has been hijacked from what looks like a legit seller.
