Am i the only one not disappointed by IB?

Doesn't seem like you're the only one.

I'm giving Ivy a miss. :)

Yeah looks to be the case, i'm fairly happy about that for some odd reason :D

I don't blame anyone for skipping Ivy, far from it i can see plenty of logical reasons, mainly it not being worth the upgrade, but for a new build i still see it as a good buy as i mentioned :)

I think intel are being a bit high and mighty, why NDA's ? ,if it's not like they already own the market they should just set a date for sale and get on with it .If the were a supermarket chain they would be advertising it on tv as well.

I've been waiting to rebuild with IB for 3 months ,new parts all waiting for a cpu .

Some pc builders are already listing system with IB so why not chips only ,just bcause they can hide the price ?.

I think people too easily focus on any negativety they read for whatever reason. Maybe people expect too much, or just like to be negative about new products (maybe cant afford them or want to justify keeping what they already have). Take the Gtx 480 for example, a few years later it's still a great performer and respected yet received a lot of negitivety at first.

Ivybridge is newer tech than sandy and has seen a lot of investment = a better product it has to be and will IMO receive much better reviews once realeased properly and in use.

Completely agree with Darren. So many people I've seen that turn it down on the first day because of a review and overclock that might not blow the reviewer away. For me, its a great step up and I'm looking forward to it no end!

I have a i7 920 @ 4GHZ, I didnt upgrade to the 2600k cause it was only a 15% increase in performance, now the Ivybridge in another 10% on top of that.

The thing thats stopping me is socket 1155 is getting on a bit now, I dont think itll be long till be see the next mid-range socket comming out?

25% increase on a i7 920, Im tempted, but I just cant make my mind up, If I new I could get 5GHZ from a 3770k with a top notch air cooler I would get one

Born 2 kill, you're one of the people i can understand why they might be negative about ivy, you have a good cpu that can last, but at the same time you do acknowledge the good points of IB so props to you :D

In your situation i would actually wait for Haswell, nothing against ivy in the slightest, i just understand your point about the socket reaching the end of its life, but then i wouldn't condemn you in the slightest if you got the upgrade itch and went for it :D

I'm not disappointed at all - a chip that clocks well (>4.2 is future-proof enough for me... i'm sure others would say otherwise though) on low volts at low temps is perfect for a new, quiet and cool build :)

From what I've read, keyword hot. But. Clock-for-clock 10% faster than SB, so that 4.5 GHz daily will be like 4.95 GHz in SB money. The thing it does really well is RAM; who is to say that some RAM records won't fall with IB? So, an interesting CPU altogether.

its not worth it for sb owners. its Westmere II. I doubt I'd even notice if someone switched my cpu to an IB.

For a new build i would still go sandy, 4.8 - 5Ghz on an inexpensive cooler, less heat and pretty much the same performance for what will no doubt be less money.

Its a no brainer to me.
